Don't you hate it when.....

You made a mess of things just because you were to quick to click accept mission?

My latest example:
Free Hostages check, Kill of lotsa family always a nice bonus check.

Disarm three bombs.....
Uh oh. Disarm simultanously? I am soloing, oops. Bummer, I don't have to time to organize a party either. So looks like the building is a goner (would love the new combat phasing here). I would be mad at the developers but, I did not read the mission through carefully in the first place. They even used different colors to mark this important part.

So, where did you mess up lately?

A few minutes ago actually.

I got to the first EB of the latest part of the signature story arc, used all my purple inspirations, hit Domination, got him down to 3/4 health, hit Mutation and got turned into a Rikti Monkey.

Then I died.

I got back and because of the long loads and lag he was back at full HP again.

You can abandon any mission, so there's no real way to fail one. It might seem like you can't, but all you need to do is find another mission, select that as the active one and THEN abandon the one you didn't mean to take. Not all missions can be auto-completed, but as far as I'm aware, all missions can be abandoned.

Sorry, I had to laugh, but I feel your pain. As someone who has experienced the dreaded "devolution" during a fight, I try to remember to hit Mutation before the fight now. I've also had to beat down an entire mob that's chasing my teammate who turned into a Rikti Monkey. That was funny actually.

Beauty would take breath if I could arise each day to look upon the waste I had laid to the world.

Oh I feel your pain!!

I need to learn NOT to hit that power when I am tanking AVs- I swear it's a 99% chance to devolve then. My latest was Reichsman on a Kahn. I had been tanking him easily for a good 35 minutes, hit Mutation.... and suddenly I'm a monkey! Followed just as suddenly I was monkey paste....

I've abandoned timed missions before. So long as it's not your active mission, I've never had a problem abandoning one.

I had a mission recently that I could not abandon. It wasn't a timed mission, though. But I even got a pop-up window telling me that I could not abandon it, when I tried to enter the door of another mission that I had. Though I should note that this un-abandonable mission was one I had already entered, but which I couldn't complete because its end boss was just way too powerful (I had my difficulty settings too high for that character).

I was able to force the issue by logging out and logging back in again, however.

EDIT: And yeah, I tried the abandon mission button as well, or... is it called 'select task'? Whatever those options are in the menu.

If you have a mission selected as active, the game won't let you enter an instance from another mission unless you specifically select it. That's how it's always worked. Also, once you have selected a mission as active, the "Abandon Mission" button disappears from that mission. You need to pick another mission, manually select it as the active one ("Select Task"), confirm the pop-up telling you you'll lose progress if you get one, then return to your missions window and the button should have reappeared.

Yes I know that.

I did indeed use the 'Select Task' option. It did nothing, nor did it give me a pop-up. The pop-up happened when, in desperation to abandon that other mission, I tried to enter the door of another mission. I got a pop-up that specifically said that I could not abandon my mission. It didn't say that I would lose progress if I abandoned it, it said that I could not abandon it.

Huh... Wow, OK, that's a first for me. Which mission was that, do you remember?

Unfortunately I don't remember anymore. My character was level 30 at the time (level 31 now), and both missions were in Steel Canyon. That's all I remember about it, now! It happened I think maybe two weeks ago.
