Traps/Dark/?

All right... Traps/Dark/Dark is obvious, but the concept (a Vahzilok Eidolon who had fallen out with good doctor and now does good and not so good deeds FOR REAL SCIENCE and against "quacks" like his former boss) lends itself to hero/villain revolving door anyway, and some patron pools look very good.

So, would T/D/Mace or T/D/Soul be better?

I'm personally a fan of Mace for the web nade it gives, but being dark you might not need it as much. Also the Scorpion shield is a nice place to toss a Lotg +rech and the pet is nice.

I've also grown fond of dark for the self rez. I'm completely unafraid of being the first one to take on a full team spawn, and do so regularly on my trapper. Dark makes face-planting or using all my end both trivial matters. Not that either happens very often. Soul is also good.

Self rez? I think oppressive gloom would be special with Traps/Dark. Going for the scorpion shield for stacking defense with PFF would also be a good angle, webnade with tenebrous tentacles would be gravy.

The issue I'm having with Oppressive Gloom is will it interfere with Trip Mine placement?

If it hits a foe (not necessarily stuns, for example, a boss) it'll alert them to your presence if you were stealthed/invisible. If that isn't what you mean then I guess I'm not sure what your concern is ... laying mines won't (or shouldn't) be interrupted by ones own Oppressive Gloom regardless of whether there are foes around to be hit or not. Obviously if the foes start attacking because they become aware of you, you risk getting interrupted by a successful attack.

Having said that if it is interrupting mine laying I'd just toggle it off and on as needed (and I'd probably /bug it too as in my honest non-Dev opinion that would or should not be "WAI".)

EDIT: Think I'm following your reasoning a bit better at this point ... got any characters with a Snipe and OG. If it doesn't interrupt a Snipe it probably won't interrupt Trip Mines.

My traps/dark leveled really quickly. He took Dark mastery with oppressive gloom, dark consumption for nuking purposes, soul drain for nuking and dark embrace for protection. It's delicious.

Soul

Oppressive Gloom is that good.

You will be Positional Defense capped and be able to solo 4/8 settings.

You will notice that once you pull a group they will start off with the obligatory range attack before closing in. But once they come into range you will notice suddenly many of the attacks stop. You will then notice the mobs just standing there in a drunken stupor. They pretty much are begging to be blown up with a trip mine.

Add in the Hit Debuff from Dark and that will be your cushion for when you get debuffed. They debuff your defenses, you debuff their Tohit.

Players will notice you, You will be godly. Girls will talk to you.

Make sure you put the Lockdown chance to hold proc in Posion Trap. It works magic, I run into mobs with or before the Tank and can lock the mob down BEFORE the troller/doms do. But I went with Power Mastery for the power build up and for Temp. Inv since my DEF is caped any way.

Oppressive Gloom does a tiny tick of damage to you when it hits someone. Trip Mine is interruptable. Therefore does OG interfer with Trip Mine placement when toe bombing?

It does not interrupt.

You mean Dark? Soul doesn't have Oppressive Gloom.

Anyway, thanks for all the advice, probably would try Dark first.
