Locked Character Slots after dropping to Premium

Wow, I had no idea this would be the case!
Judging from your post, it sounds like you don't have to pay to get your character slots back, but it is disconcerting all the same. Locking existing characters up is bad news.

When you visit a server as a Premium player, it automatically locks your slots. You need to use any global slots you have available to unlock them. But when you go back to VIP, it doesn't know if you want to unlock all the same characters, or maybe leave some locked and open some empty slots. So you have to choose for all of them.
The good news is, if you do not visit a server while you are Premium, it doesn't lock any of the slots. It only checks your account status when you go to the character selection screen.

Yesterday my subscription ran out. No big deal, I just renewed. However I did find a very annoying... thing. (I've no idea if this is working as intended, a bug, or what.) All of my character slots that had characters in them were locked, and had to be unlocked before I could log in even though I'd spent maybe a whole hour as a Premium. I didn't have to pay anything extra, I was still credited with having the appropriate number of server slots, but having to reapply them to 22 characters was annoying to say the least. I know there are people with far more than 22 characters to a server.
I would be nice if renewing your VIP subscription auto-unlocked all of an accounts occupied character slots so that someone with 20+ characters doesn't have to unlock them all one at a time.
