Nvidia & OpenGL (losing connection to driver)

Image of the actual error.

It'll happen on a seemingly random basis. I can expect it to happen on certain mission maps, though. This one in particular is happening in a sewer map (which is the first that spurred me to make this thread) but I also have it happen on EVERY Council underground base map.

It's happening so often that it's really impeding on my ability to even play since I can't even estimate when it's going to happen other than if I go into a mission. As of right now, I've not had it happen in any of the overworld zones.

If you can't view the image:

"The NVIDIA OpenGL driver lost connection with the display driver due to exceeding the Windows Time-Out limit and is unable to continue.
The application must close.

Error code: 7

I've tried the following so far:
Reinstall of the game
Rollback drivers (all the way back to drivers that are one and half years old! and various version hops all the way back to the most current)
Tweaked my TdrDelay
Switched to Single Display Performance

Absolutely no change so far.

BB, did you try using a driver cleaner before installing the new drivers?
(I use Driver Cleaner Pro which I purchased a while back, but here is a free one that works great
Driver Sweeper

I found this from another forum:
"go into nvidia control panel, under manage 3D settings, in global settings, scroll down to 'Multi Display/Mixed-GPU acceleration', set to either single display performance mode, or multiple display performance mode, depending on your setup. Right under that is power management mode, set it to prefer maximum performance, and that stops the downclocking. Adaptive is default, and it varies the clocks according to usage. Max Perf gives the best gameplay and folding. Now go down to 3rd from bottom to 'Threaded Optimization, set to Off. Better for gaming as well as folding."

Please don't give up..there are lots of very smart folks here who might be able to give you a solution. Hang in, and good luck.

Aye, I did use Driver Sweeper and used safe mode to ensure every bit of driver residue was gone before installing new ones.

Below Multi Display/Mixed-GPU acceleration (which I do have set to single display, since I have a single display) in the 3D settings I do not have a Power Management option. I do, however, have an option for Threaded Optimization which was set to 'Auto' and now to 'Off'

I just upgraded from XP to Win 7 and from a 9800GT to a GTX550Ti, and BAM, this very problem hit me hard, making the game unplayable. I put the 9800GT back in and installed the correct drivers for it (clean install) and the problem went away.

The video card is going back to NewEgg tomorrow. ( <3 their return policy)

This is probably not helpful, but it's a data point.

Weird. I've been having my very own thread going on about this EXACT same issue. Here's the link to my thread so you can read what's been going on.

I just did the things that Healix suggested. I had all of those options available to me and changed them all. We'll see if that helps.
