Discussion for FAQ: interacting with Free players

There are quite a few questions and discussions regarding interaction with free accounts, and I figured it would be a good idea to create a FAQ for that. I want to see what kind of information we can gather about this and possibly ideas to circumvent the limitations.

Far as I know the situation is like this:

Freebies can get tells and e-mails (and claim attachments in them), but can't send them.

Freebies can post on the friends channel.

Freebies have one global channel they can post on, the help channel.

It's impossible to trade with freebies or drop inspirations on them.

Freebies can invite to team via a blind invite. They can talk on the team channel.

Dealing with freebie friends:

If you want to send inf, do it by e-mail.

Personal two way communication isn't possible. Best you can do is if you're both not teamed one can invite the other (blind invite if initiated by the freebie) and then chat on the team channel. Otherwise one way communication only, and answers can be on a more global channel (such as friends).

Dealing with unfamiliar freebies:

The game doesn't let you know that your target can't reply to your tells.

Is there any way to detect that a character belong to a freebie player?

Why do we call help a global channel? /Help is server only isn't it?

Correct, help is not a global channel. Global channels reach across all the live servers; help is only across one server.

The easiest way to see if someone is a free player is to look at their rewards badges. If they have more than one rewards badge, they are a premium player. Freebies will only have "Rookie".

You can check vet badges.

One thing to add. You can global friend freebies. (I've done this twice so far.)

It's not how many times you get knocked down that count. It's how many times you get up.

I think this needs a little clarification.
I just tested this out with a Free account (not Premium) and I found out that:
  1. Free accounts can not "/send Friends", and receive a message that they need to be VIP or Reward Level 4.
  2. Free accounts can post to the Friends channel if it is selected as their active chat box.*

*I picked a random stranger to add to my Friends list, and didn't receive any response back for verification. (Didn't expect any.)

There might be other clarifications that I was not aware to check.

EDITed to add:: I just double checked Paragon Wiki, and dug a bit deeper. The slash command I should have tried is "/F <message>". I'll try that later, and report back.

Thanks for the comments. So, communication channels available for freebies:

Team
Local - per zone
Help - per server
Friends - server or global? (Sorry, I have no experience with this. Does global friends chat from other servers show?)

Friends is a server only channel

It works. I tested it two nights ago to prove a point in a Suggestions thread asking for a "friends channel" (which already exists...though it is server-only and the person requested a global chat...freebies don't have access to that though except to /gfriend someone and to receive tells)

One more tidbit. Free players cannot enter a SG base.

Good. It has been verified.

I suspect the one person reporting an "error message" when trying to post to the Friends channel as a Free player was trying it like me with "/send Friends."

Maybe they and I are the only two who will get confused like that, but it is worth noting. I took the "/send <channel>" command to be the formal command that would work with any channel, and the only reason no one used "/send local" or "/send broadcast" was because the easier and less formal commands already existed.
