Lindelof interview reveals info on characters.

Looks like Charlize Theron will be playing a corporate honeypot, while Michael Fassbender plays . . . a robot??? I think we're all in agreement that more Fassbender movies are a good thing, but I'm not sure if or how this role will limit him.

Also, official, albeit short, synopsis.

They're still being coy about the relation to the Alien franchise officially, though the Fassbender interview in that link seems to at least confirm it's in the same universe.

I am excited for this movie. I hope it captures the creepy monster movie vibe of the first one.

I'm excited to see Ridley Scott returning to the horror genre. I'm also excited that Russell Crowe isn't playing the crew in a variety of fat suits as well as the alien. >.>

There is no limit to Fassbender!

If it's a robot like Bishop or Ash, he should have no problem showing his acting chops.

So, let me guess:

Humans were bred by the Aliens to be incubators for their young, but some revolt/cataclysm led to the Aliens think humanity was wiped out so they went into hibernation and then remnant humanity, having lost its history in the revolt/cataclysm, has gained space travel and stumbles upon and awakens our dormant overlords and hilarity ensues.

That synopsis did not excite me. It sounds a little too grand in scope to me. I trust Ridley Scott to make this a good movie, and his involvement, as well as the cast, makes me a little less apprehensive, But I've been waiting over 20 years for another good Alien movie, so I'm not getting my hopes up too high.

I'm also disappointed it isn't going to be a backstory on the crashed alien vessel they found on LV-426.
