Help! - random crashes, possibly graphics related

I've recently decided to pick the game back up, and I have been having what seems to be two separate issues. I have no idea what triggers either one. I updated the graphics drivers (clean install to the newest ones), I cleaned the system, defragged, checked for viruses with pc tools spyware doctor and avg free, I ran ccleaner to check for registry issues and recovered 1.52 gigs of memory from temp files. BOTH problems still occur.

The first is a random "The video display drivers have stopped working, and been forced to recover" which drops me back to the desktop.

The second is a random hardlock with loud sound (possibly a sound loop, but it's so short it just sounds like nGnGnGnGnGnG).

No clue. I can't get either of them to repeat on a regular basis, either, they just dump.

It has just occured to me that maybe it's a temperature issue. I'll be checking that. Anyway, here's Hijack This's report.

It could be either a temperature issue (too hot) or a power issue (not enough power from your power supply) or something else.

It shouldn't be the power supply, I've got a Thermaltake 800w power supply in this thing, and I'm PRETTY sure it's not the temp, but I've got some more experiments to do with that.

You've ran a memtester already?

I've had the "video display drivers have stopped working, and been forced to recover" crash on my system, but not with this game, World of Tanks was causing me that problem, and there seems to be no one standard fix. There are many reports of this error all over the net. Here are a couple resources I came across looking for a fix.

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?s...ic=187401&st=0
http://www.nvlddmkm.com/

You can try to force "performance mode" in the nvidia settings. Go to global settings and then change, "adaptive" to "performance". That might help. Your card is a little under powered and you might want to turn down some settings.

Turn ambient occlusion completly off, and try turning down your world detail, looks like you've got it set to "very high". Thats a lot of rendering going on. Also, you might try turning down shadows if you havn't tried that.

My fix, for this error, ended up being to down clock my memory. That stopped my video display has stopped error, but as you can see in the links I've posted, not any one fix seems to work for everyone.

I am, apparently, also getting an OpenGL error that causes CoH to crash. It shouldn't be the temperatures, they run high, but not abysmally so. 60C core temps and 80C gpu temps. I'll pull the graphics settings back a bit, and see what I can do about updating the sound drivers, maybe. I have NO idea how to downclock my RAM, and I haven't done a memtest. I guess the memtest is next, although I haven't had problems anywhere else or with any other game - and my wife plays some high end FPS games, so theoretically if something were to stress the card/ram, it would be Crysis.
