Welcome to the game and to the forums!
If you press the Print Screen key the screen shot will automatically be taken and saved to Program Files--->City of Heroes--->Screen Shots.
Hope that helps.
Edit: I believe you can also type /screenshot in the chat bar.

! So I dont have to go into paintshop when pressing print screen?
Press the Prt Scr button. It will save a jpg of the current screen (without the game interface) to a directory in your CoH directory.
You can go to Menu->Options->Keymapping tab and scroll all the way down to other to select a key under "toggle screenshot ui" to toggle whether the screenshot includes the UI or not.

By default a screenshot does NOT include the User Interface, I know there's a command to include it but it escapes me at the moment.
Oh, and let me welcome you to the game! They must be doing something right to keep so many of us playing for 4, 5, 6 or even 7 years.

Little warning:
If you try to take a screenshot in the Tailor or Character Select screen, it won't work - you'll need (Vista/7) the Snipping tool, (xp) or to paste it into Paint (I think) or a third party program to get the screenshot.
Also, yes, with the UI, /screenshotui 1. To turn it off after, /screenshotui 0.
