A hypothetical primary question

If you had the option to take two defender primaries, dropping the blast set, would you? If so, what two defender primaries would you take.

Something like TA/kin, or Traps/kin since both are recharge dependent.

Ooh. I hadn't even thought of TA/Kin, but it sounds interesting. Traps/kin would be tasty, I think.

Storm/kin, too.

Dark/Kin =)

Oh, and Crimson demands you play this arc-> Twisted Knives (MA Arc #397769)

TA/Emp. Who needs a Heal Arrow now eh?

I suppose you're letting dark/kin speak for itself.

Dark/Rad. So much -Regen it would actually cause damage

Storm/TA here. OSA and Lightning Storm for damage, and tons of -Res.

I wouldn't do it, personally.
...Though Storm Summoning/Cold Domination is really tempting. Or Storm Summoning/Storm Summoning.

Storm/Storm...

Double tornado, all away across the sky?

Ta/Ta would rock. My current build has oil slick down to a 43.8 sec recharge and emp arrow down to 74.2 sec. Halving those (because I have 2x ta) would be so much ownage.

Plus disruption is currently on a 15 sec recharge but getting it like that with 2x the disruption would be awesome.

Storm/Storm would also be a lot of fun.

I think storm/ta would leave the ta portion pissed off at the storm portion and would not be a good idea.

Storm/Rad for massive -rech and -res and -to hit.

Would I make a character that was Support only..?

In many other MMOs? Yeah sure. Attacks on support types are typically pretty useless, and you spend all of your time focused on team support (and may be actively derided by your team if you don't). Plus I almost always play support in those-other-games-that-must-not-be-named anyhow.

In CoH? No, no probably not. The games are structured differently, and I just don't know that I would find it fun and engaging.

Storm+Dark please. Or TA+Traps.

So intense!

Dark/Kin would be a game breaker.

In for one.

Edit: and while I can't stand the style of Champions, didn't they do an a la carte system of powers?

And, really, we want Dark/Kin corruptodefenders. SCOURGOVERPOWER!

Well, "support" is too broad a word to use. Note the responses so far and see what keeps coming up. Storm on its own can put out a lot of damage, and Trick Arrow has a juicy damage power (though it's on a fairly long recharge). Now realize that both of those sets have -resistance debuffs, multiplying the damage potential of both sets.

I don't even want to talk about the damage proc potential (also boosted by the -resistance debuffs!), as a shirtful of drool isn't very attractive.

I'd go Storm/Storm and issue a written apology to my endurance bar beforehand. All the kaboomy goodness!

I always warn teams that I'm an ill/storm when I play that controller. Sometimes I get "what does that mean?" *snerk* And I've also been asked by a tanker to "quit casting your pets." My response "that puts me back to level 2 as far as powers go."

Once upon a time, if you were playing an Empathy Defender, what you took as your secondary was irrelevant. People needed you for your Empathy and could care less what your secondary was. They wanted you to have as much healing and buffing capacity as possible.

Those days are gone now, and the pendulum has indeed swung the other way. In fact, focusing on the Empathy side of an Empath is more likely to get you insulted and yelled at than thanked.

I think playing an Empath in the old days was more fun. It was challenging trying to switch targets target quickly to keep a full team of 8 alive, knowing that the Kheldian on the team is dead within a couple of seconds if the group runs into a Void and you aren't on your toes.

Point being, while playing a dual-primary defender may be fun and interesting, I doubt your team would appreciate you.

At this point I kinda want to run an 8 man defender something with the agreed upon restriction that no one will use their secondary...

I'd go Emp/Thermal and be the bestest h341z0r evah (since I can't do Emp/Pain)!

Actually this would be a phenomenal teammate to the lucky someone who would get AB + Fortitude + Forge + Shields

Eh. For me the term "Support" as it pertains to archetypes(classes) had it's genesis in CoH, as every other game I'd ever played (or heard of at the time) didn't have Support classes, they had Healers.

Thus when I say Support, I always mean it in a sense as it applies to all Buff/Debuff/Heal powersets, Storm and TA(OSA) included.

Would I play a Storm/Storm or Storm/* dual support? Highly unlikely. I don't even like Storm as a Defender set. IMO it's far more useful on Controllers, particularly where the set's two damage dealing pets are concerned, as most(many) control sets have ways of preventing the inevitable scatter those very pets cause.

Yes. Oh, God, yes.

I'd roll a Kinetics/Time. And a Cold/Storm. And a TA/Traps. And a Rad/FF. And a Pain/Dark. And probably more.
