Need advice on an alt

I'd like to start up an alt and I am paralyzed by the number of options available. Any suggestions?

My main is a 50 fire/kin that I love playing. Just got all my IOs and my initial Alpha slot done so I am looking to let her sit for a bit - been playing fire/kin non-stop for months

What would be a good change of pace from fire/kin? I've mostly solo'd and been grinding Tip missions for cash over the past month or so.

A single target hero as a change from my minion killing fire/kin?

A scrapper/brute for a melee change?

A blaster for the glass cannon experience?

Fun factor and graphics are much more important to me than being uber. I know fire/kin has a rep but I just loved the synergy of the set, the versatility of being able to solo one way but then switch to using Kin more to support teams, and the quick key punching needed to keep it humming along.

Thanks for any direction

Thanks Bill.

What I like:
- Very active play style
- Ability to fry big groups of mobs (its just fun)
- Kinetics secondary is great on teams and allows me to switch from solo damage dealer to team supporter easily

What I dislike:
- Terrible against bosses
- Killing vast spawns of minions can get monotonous
- Squishy; if I miss a group hold or a heal I can die fast
- Very active play style is great, but every now and then I'd like something a little more relaxing

Perhaps a scrapper with /regen secondary? Regen is considered a very 'clicky' set and it gives great survivability. For the primary . . . I guess a fast set, maybe Katana. I think Spines is good for AoE but I have never played it.

Hmmm. First things that jump to mind:

Avoid:
Robots/Force Field mastermind. It's just not that active. (It nearly bored me away from masterminds all together.)

Consider:
Bots/Traps, Thugs/Poison, Thugs/Dark masterminds.

Kheldians. If you're going for bigger groups, Warshades are geared more towards "more hordes" to buff from, while Peacebringers are smaller, harder targets (all buffs are self contained, IE, you won't miss a heal if it's recharged. Plus for both, Dwarf works as a breakfree.)

Some corruptors, though they do share a bit of the squishy. Ice/Dark Miasma is fun. (So is Fire/Dark.) Ice/Cold gives some nice buffs and debuffs, as well, but /dark (since they're toggled/placed) will help you as much solo. (You can't shield yourself.) Defenders if you want the debuff side of things early - solo, they get a damage boost (30%) that drops as you add people (to 0% at 4.)

Dominators. While squishy, you can counter some of that with your controls. Plus, of course, there's Domination to deal with mezzes. Depends on if you're tired of control or not.

And of course, tanks/brutes/scrappers for the "Just go in and punch things" of it.

I would suggest a Blaster or a Scrapper.
My wife’s main is a Controller, and after she finished all her Incarnate slots, she wanted a change of pace. We had a couple of paired teams, but the toon she kept wanting to play was her Blaster. Why? Because after constantly controlling the entire battlefield, team or solo, she just wanted to “make things dead.” It was relaxing to have just 1 task, but also fast paced and dynamic, because as a Blaster you are a bit squishy. Now if you’re going to be doing lots of soloing, Blasters can be a little tougher, so I’d suggest Scrapper. Again, you have to watch your health so things are dynamic, but the boss-killing fun is awesome. As for what sets, I say abandon any sort of Controller-eske sets and really focus on raw damage. Good luck, and have fun.

Going to go with Kin/Elec scrapper. Why? Well, because. That's why.

Thanks all - I'll try out some of those combos.

I'd second that recommendation on the Katana/Regen Scrapper. Most of my toons are very "busy" toons to play and I find my Katana/Regen Scrapper is a great change of pace. Plus, if you want to play more active sometimes, you can solo big spawns and tough mobs pretty well. Like Ironblade said, there's enough clicking to be done in both powersets so you won't be bored though.
