I have a complex fortuna question. It is MADLY complex.

Lets start with the simple bits of information:
1. I love ranged toons

2. This is my second week of returning-to-the-game-in-anticipation-of-freedom

3. I have a crab spider, that I sorta like(I take hits, AND do explodey range. I like that. I like having free(like..as in endurance) leadership toggles, and cool armor. I want stealth though, or controls. Just..standing there, and nuking bores me.)

4.I have a warshade that I sorta like(I have stealth, AND holds, but if I don't look for void's carefully enough, I WILL die. I don't like a guaranteed death/inability to solo properly)

5. I have controller's(multiple), that I sorta like. They don't do enough damage for me, and there's a shortage of cool invisibility powers outside of illusion, but I like looking at enemies unable to do anything. It makes me happy.

6. If I want stealth, holds, and ranged damage, will Fortuna's work? At higher levels, will I have both sustainable damage/holds enough to lock big bad's down(like...I'm not expecting controller level holds, but like...warshade level holds), or if I start a fortuna with the EXPLICIT plan to do big-kid ranged damage/cc, will I be cursing my future Fortuna at like..40/lamenting not rolling a 'troller/dominator/warshade?
Or will I be building strange psychic houses inside the brains of my enemies, soley so I can take them apart with a giant sledgehammer while they're locked up and twitching?

If you want ranged damage, crowd control and stealth, a Fortunata has all these things. You can even choose the amounts of each (especially # of ranged attacks and # of controls). Kill speed is a bit on the slow side (think Tankers, especially level 20 and below Tankers) but you will only faceplant if you play badly as your Defense and controls are a very potent combination for mitigation.

...this makes me happy. I have "Mr. Ochre" reserved out of love for the Reservoir Dogs, and plans to play this dude as like...some sort of sketchy black ops agent(once I get blueside).

New question. I obviously will want one of those "patron pool" powers(or maybe one of Epic Power Pool sets...I'll decide later. Resets exist for a reason :P)

can I get a patron while I'm a rogue? or do I have ta be full on "kill the puppy level of evil" red?

To initially unlock the patron pools, you need to be full villain. You won't be offered the first patron arc that you need to complete to unlock them if you're a rogue. However, once you've completed the arc and unlocked the pools, it doesn't matter what alignment you become. You could even go full hero, do a respec, and still have the patron pools available.

No you don't. A rogue has access to all the contacts and story arcs that a full villain does. The only thing a rogue cannot do is enter the crucible and gain/spend villain merits.

In terms of Warshades.... I don't know how long you've been away, but Void Hunters have been nerfed so that getting surprised by one is no-longer the instant death sentence that it used to be.

Fortunata has all the things you are looking for!

Her damage can be "decent" if you carry double Assault and use the attack chain of Dominate, Gloom and Subdue (and throw in TK Blast occasionally). If you are rich enough, you can put Purple proc damage in Dominate.

You can take Stealth and stealth in to use mini nuke or aoe confuse.

Fortunata has one of the best mez protection in the game. Seriously, I can't remember the last time I get held/stunned/feared.

Control-wise, she is good. When you said "lock down big guys"? You mean just regular bosses? You can easily stack two holds with enough recharge. There is also a mag 4 stun if you want. :P And you don't need to worry about your survival if you miss holds because you have well above average Defense and your Psonic protection is superior. In fact, Widow has the best Psionic protection in the game.

Want more? All your Leaderships and Mind Link benefit the whole team! There is no situation where Fortunata is not welcomed. Even if you are not doing Blaster-level damage, you are adding a lot of damage to the teammates by giving them +damage and +defense to make sure they survive. Remember, you deal ZERO damage when you die so by giving them Defense-All through double Maneuver and Mind Link, you are PASSIVELY increasing team's damage output because every time somebody use Aid Self or use a healing power, they are not doing dps!

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
