DM/SD build: as good as it gets?

Here is the build I am currently working on. I expect it to be done soon. Is there a way to improve it? I think this may be the toughest character I have ever built in Mids and am very much looking forward to seeing him in action. I have the character at level 47 presently and already have some of the sets slotted.

There are so many great synergies between Dark Melee and Shield Defense. Defense+Self Heal. Soul Drain+Shield Charge. One with the Shield+Dark Consumption. Defense+Acc debuff.

EDIT: UPDATED. Thanks for the suggestions. Now I just need a few billion. Just pased the 1 billion influence mark last week. I think I'll need 4 billion more. Between the IOs I already have and merits, I can make up the rest.

Key stats:
Regen bonus maxed (well, almost... at 289%)
Defense: All positions softcapped
Max HP 132%
Great on endurance (gain 2/sec with all toggles on... and have conserve power)... maybe even too much endurance?
Inherent +30% bonus to damage before Soul Drain
142% recharge with hasten up (only down for 20 seconds)

Only hole is Psionic. Resistances are a tad low, but seemed like a better bet to boost max hit points with true grit.
Nice eh? After this guy is rigged out I'll post some notes on performance.

Any feedback on the build?

First off I'm going to suggest you try and make it to the softcap if you can, DM does have a to-hit debuff but in large crowds you are going to have trouble keeping everything debuffed especially considering that DM isnt exactly AOE friendly

First I have to ask, do you plan on doing Incarnate powers? If so which Alpha?

Now for you build and what I don't like:

First off you don't have the recharge to seamlessly run MG>Smite>SL>Smite, MG needs to recharge at the very least in 4.488s but most tend to get a tad lower than that for server lag, I believe Werner clarified this in a post I made awhile ago. It looks like even with just the T1 Spiritual Alpha you would be able to run the top chain.

Secondly and honestly even more important because I just noticed it. You skipped over Phalanx Fighting. That is a free gimme 3.75% def one slot wonder, drop assault and take that and you are softcapped.

True Grit is vastly underslotted

I would advise against using Reactive Armors in Tough, its a tiny tiny positional bonus for many slots

If you plan on running the top chain many would suggest putting the Heca set in smite so that proc can fire off more.

Siphon Life is a very good heal and you didn't enhance that aspect of it, some people (like myself) went 3 Acc/Dam Hami-os and 3 Heal/End Hami-os. There is another thread lying around that had many more combinations for slotting Siphon Life.

I would personally put a Rech IO in Active Defense, it gives you DDR and getting it to doublestack really helps you get that up and since you skipped over Grant Cover and not using Membranes (not uncommon) your DDR is rather low.

Well, damage, naturally. This is a scrapper and I like hitting things.

If your phalanx fighting proposal works the way you say it does, then problem solved. If it requires at least 1 teammate to provide any bonus... problems. EDIT: DOODER, it requires at least 1 ally. That is not an inherent softcap.

Doesn't phalanx fighting only work if I have at least one ally nearby? If so, then I don't want to rely on it. If not... well then hell, that is AWESOME. If it supplies a BASE of 3.75% defense all of the time and then a bonus on top for 1 teamate that is huge. EDIT: Looks like it doesn't work that way.

Did it for the defense. If phalanx fighting works the way you imply it does, then I absolutely agree with you. As for true grit... resistance slotting I assume? How do yo uslot tough? Aegis for the Psionic IO?

Man. I figured the thing is being fired off every 5 seconds or so if I need it to for a 10% heal. I'm willing to concede the point and add a 6th slot for healing. Really like the 5-slot crushing impact, though. It does beastly damage

Never had a problem with Active Defense the way it is.

Thanks for the help. Thoughts on my responses? Really really want to verify that if I am out soloing with no teammates I still get the +3.75% bonus to phalanx fighting. EDIT: looks like it needs at least 1 ally. That is not going to work if I want a real softcap

DEF(Melee, Ranged, AOE) +3.75% for 1.25s [Ignores Enhancements & Buffs] Effect does not stack from same caster

Is this not showing in game? That looks like a default 3.75% buff no matter what.

Well, hell, I was going off of mids... and even there failed to note that it says it DOES exactly what you say. Apologies all around. That is fantastic news.

Is this a character you've played a lot and are just setting up the final build for? Or is this more theoretical?

You keep posting like you've confirmed this somehow. What is making you think it works that way? Because I can confirm it works as tektronics and Amy_Amp say -- it gives you a fixed defense bonus even with no one else on your instanced map.

Shadow Maul only hits/debuffs a max of 5 enemies. I recommend the soft cap, especially since you're so close already.

First and foremost, slot heal IOs for more hit points. It would be feasible to slot, say, 3 common heal IOs and then 3 of some resistance set for a small set bonus. Or 4 heal IOs from a set (try to hit the ED cap on heal enhancement though).

Here your thinking is more in line with what I typically see recommended. I myself slot it as a pure attack and let the healing take care of itself.

Ah, sorry, simulpost. I think it's possible to display it correctly in Mids, too, but I haven't looked. I have Phalanx Fighting on a Mids build and it's always shown me the defense I expect.

When you click Phalanx Fighting with teammates at 0, toggle PF on and off. It shows the extra 3.5% in your defense totals.

If I had a character like yours, I would take Spiritual Core Alpha instead of Musculature. With both AAO and Soul Drain active, there's a good chance you will be above the damage cap and Musculature won't be doing anything for you. Spiritual will help make sure you have Soul Drain perma.

Haven't looked at the build yet, so don't know how tight it is, but if you can spare the slots then put some Resistance IOs into Deflection since it houses SD's S/L resistance.

Nice. I suppose I can drop 1 slot out of conserve power as I expend 1.43 end/sec but gain 3.43/sec. And I have Dark Consumption. I suppose I can gain a second slot by dropping to 2 heal IOs in True Grit from three.

my 2 cents. Lose tactics and body. Get Blaze, Fireball is just that good.

Drop hasten, with proper slotting you can have the S/SL/S/MG chain running all day without the hassle of hasten. plus, fireball is just that good. I like fire blast as well for that little bit of range damage.

You can have all that, 2100HP and should still have softcap def without running combat jumping.

I like hasten. Keeping it. I have the extra power slots. I did try dropping tactics and Body, adding Blaze and slotting fireball with Ragnorok.

Highly amusing. I also like this melt armor idea as a back up to soul drain. I am still at 45% on AOE but dropped to 44% for melee and ranged. I also dropped from 289% regen to 260%.

The second AOE is pretty huge, though. As is the third purple set.

I figure I can drop body as I can run at a 1.7 end/sec surplus and have dark consumption available every minute.

Question: is 200% accuracy good enough? I suppose with perma Soul Drain running, it is.

Add a third slot to hasten, slot in two miracles to True grit and that is all I have for now. I'll look at it more a little later.

Good catch on the miracles. Nice. Fixed.

Hasten only has a 14 second downtime as is. Seems to me that third slot is better used elsewhere.

I also changed it to include fire ball. Ragnorak is amusing. As is melt armor+soul drain.

New stats:

44% in melee and ranged defense. Not too worried as minions will die with my AOE and bosses will get massive acc debuffs from my attacks.
45% in AOE
152% recharge bonus with hasten
261% regen bonus
Running at a 2 end/sec surplus
Max HP at 125%
34% smash/lethal resistance
2 AOEs which is fun

Feeling pretty good about this.

Nitpick: to-hit debuffs. The game isn't very precise about terminology, and sometimes says "acc debuff" on some powers, but you cannot debuff accuracy as it now exists in the game, just to-hit. Although, if you could, you could soft-cap for the best to-hit protection and then acc debuff to lower the chance of being hit even further. :P

By adding a 3rd slot to Hasten you decrease its recharge time by 7 seconds. That's pretty significant.
