Kin/Fire Brutes

Alright guys I read through the last 8 pages of posts, thats like 200 posts per page and didn't see anything in reference to this powerset combination, so I apologize if this is an extraneous post.

I rolled a Kinetic Melee/ Fire Armor brute. Mainly because I wanted to try out Kinetic Melee since I just recently reactivated a couple accounts. I ended up going with Fire Armor, its a set I have a lot of experience with I think maybe like 6 or so lvl 50 characters of mine have Fire Armor. Don't get me wrong the other sets are great too and I have lvl 50 verisons of those with the exception of Energy Armor. I suppose that set is better now, its just I was extremely turned off from it when CoV went live, it seemed lackluster and generally weak compared to other sets.

The Brute I made is a Praetorian who just went to Talos and joined the Heroes of Paragon. He's only lvl 20 and sure the attacks and powers I have currently are weak as they are unslotted, I see potential in this combination. I've looked at mids and have a fair understanding of how power siphon works. I really think this combination could turn out to be really strong.

I mean looking over the powers there's tons of damage output, mitigation through: (-damage, and knock down), and a self heal. I rolled the combination as a brute to make use to building damage via fury and the survival of the build via the numbers I ran in mids.

My questions are:
1. Why haven't I seen anyone else with this combination of powers ingame?
2. If there are anyone out there with a high lvl kin/fire brute, what's your experience been with the combination and what kind of playstyle do you have?

I ran one up to 17ish and a scrapper up to 17ish as well and listened to the number crunchers and kept the scrapper and now wished I hadn't.

The big advantage scrappers get is that the final power instantly recharges power siphon at some percentage in place of a crit. That and the higher damage buff values of power siphon on scrapper convinced me to go scrapper.

But /fire armor is just so much better on brutes, you get to the fire resistance cap with temperature protection (on scraps this is essentially a wasted power in the powerset since you cap at 75%). Also the taunt effect brutes get is huge for keeping mobs in burn's radius.

I think the playstyle would have been more fun on a brute even if not optimized numerically. Your taunt effect on blazing aura keeps mobs in range of burn, use the smaller quick attacks to keep power siphon maxed along with fury and throw down the aoe burst (? forgot name) and burn as quick as possible.

Scrappers get such big numbers from crits its the opposite playstyle, you want to throw your big attacks as often as possible which actually hurts keeping power siphon at max as your bigger attacks have longer animations. It feels like the sets are fighting each other to get maximum production on my scrapper and I get the feeling even with the lower damage modifier on brutes I would be happier with the combo on brutes.

I did NOT play the brute past 17 so I could be completely wrong.

Scrappers and Stalkers get PS to auto recharge when CS crits. Tanks get the best -dmg debuff from PS, brutes get...This means if somebody does want to play a KM they will likely look to a different AT first. KM does have a reputation as being "meh" depending on who you talk to. It's based on people feeling the animation times don't line up with the damage even when the numbers say they do. Most people who roll /fire will pick Fire to match the theme, or SS for it's uberness. This doesn't mean it's a bad pairing. KM gives -dmg to aid the resist toggles. KM offers decent mitigation. I took a KM/nin stalker through Praet. and never had much of an issue. I am working on a Elec/nin going through Praet. and it feels like I could die on just about any mission. KM can be deemed as better than the weapon sets in part because it has no redraw issues.

If your not stuck on KM and dont want/like SS, dark/fire can be amazing if built right. Soul drain is awesome and another +end aoe power.

This toon for farming or just normal pve?

Also btw i have a KM/Invul scrapper, pretty decent toon but can seem a lil Single Targeted, the AOE on KM isnt all that great.

I think KM is fun at first but kinda gets old to me, im sure others feel the same way.

I have way more fun on my Fire/Wp/Pyre or Dark/Fire/Mu brutes

My midnight grasp hits just as hard as CS when PVE farming(as i barely use it in AE farming) but it hits bosses hard..talking like 600-700 sometimes when i got my damage bonus around 500 and soul drain is a nice +tohit +dam, esp when it gets perma'd. 8)

Kin is a subjective set, some people find it bad....some people find it awesome. I know there are better primaries but I find kin very awesome. Flashy, good chain, range attack, decent AoE. I just wish they would up the damage on burst a bit.

First, the key effect throughout KM is a damage buff, which is given as a percentage of base damage. Brute base damage is really low (even lower than Tankers). So, an extra 125% damage on a Scrapper or Stalker is FAR better than 125% damage on a Brute, which is even a little less than 125% on a Tanker. The PS recharge on CS crit is another factor. This allows Scrappers & Stalkers to keep their damage buffs rumbling along, while Brutes have to wait out the timer. Also, KM functions best when all attacks come from the primary, because of the stacking damage buffs with PS. Brutes typically pick up a lot of damage outside their primary (Burn, Dark Oblit, Gloom, Electrifying Fences, Ball Lightning, etc.), none of which would stack buffs. Non-primary attacks still benefit from the buffs, but sap the set's potential by not contributing.

Second, those that you do see are likely played by people who just really wanted the combo on a Brute, didn't realize that the set functions poorly on Brutes or decided to stick it out instead of rerolling. The playstyle would likely be similar to any other Brute: run forward, smash stuff, keep Fury up from spawn to spawn. The only difference is that you'd want to stick to your primary while PS is up.
