Non Positional attacks? And a Divine Avalanche question

What is an example of a non Positional attack? Also, if you're soft capped to melee and lethal defense, does Divine Avalanche help out beyond that?

I don't know an example, but quite a few psionic attacks are non-positional. Fight Malaise, for instance, with a Super Reflexes with soft-capped defense. It isn't pretty.

If you're soft-capped to melee and lethal already, Divine Avalanche would only be situational - incarnate trials, tip mission devouring earth, pets, suffering from defense debuffs (depends on secondary), and so on.

As for non-positional attacks, examples of such attacks that players have access to would be blind from illusion control, plus every single power from mind control (they are typed solely as psionic_attack). Additionally, singularity's attacks are untyped and non-positional both, so they ignore both typed *and* positional defense (basically everything but insps and PFF). And mobs using these powers also benefit from this, hence SR having a 'non-positional psi' hole (really it has a 'non-positional' hole, but basically all of that is psi).

Specifically, Mesmerize and Dominate are non-positional Psi attacks. Another example of non-positional attacks would be Crush and Gravity Distortion, which I believe are tagged only Smashing.

If you're already soft-capped to both melee and lethal you can probably skip Divine Avalanche, unless you plan on doing the things Werner mentions here extensively.
