Thinking of starting a MM
-resistance is -resistance. It always helps.
As for secondaries, Themal pairs nice and is thematic.
IMO dark or traps are rarely a bad choice. I also have a soft spot for storm.
Trick Arrow...so much fun
... and very active.
I'm playing a Demon Summoning / Dark Miasma MM right now and I would definitely recommend it. Like you, I knew from the onset that I did not want a "fire and forget" type of character. I wanted as many active powers as possible and I wanted to fight alongside my henchmen, rather than support them from the sidelines. I am taking and slotting all 3 whip attack powers and don't find them lacking at all. Between the whip attacks and the control/debuff heavy Dark Miasma, you have a very versatile character complete with healing/resurrection, debuffs, and melee/ranged/aoe attacks. And we haven't even gotten into what the demons are capable of. There are times when I forget that I'm playing a mastermind, I have so many options.
It probably isn't optimal (in fact, it almost certainly isn't), but it's a lot of fun, and hey, that's what video games are all about, right?
Also consider bots. Bots have ranged attacks so they can do dmg against melee even before the melee gets to them. It also keeps them out of range of AoE.
Demons are easily the best all-round set. They have great debuffs, they have some heals and beef behind them and the're not far under Thugs in terms of damage.
My main toon is a Demon/Traps and have found her to be such a joy to play. It is a set that does require a bit of investment but once you got some defense and recharge set bonuses in, it's nothing but profit from then on. They seem to be a little uncommon probably because they don't really fit thematically. Traps has quite a bit of activity and it kind of rewards using a bit of strategic planning. But I know that I can run most standard missions on max difficulty without much hassle
Also Demon/Dark is another nice combination. Great AoE debuffs and they don't require much investment to kick some ***.
Pretty much both combos are really in line with each other, If you're looking for an active set that kicks some serious *** then either one of those will definitely be your answer. Oh also, Crack Whip is probably worth taking out, the -res just stacks with all the other -res getting tossed around so it's nothing but profit IMO.
I'm thinking of starting a mastermind, planning on playing him during the double xp weakend. I haven't played a MM since around when CoV came out(when I played a Necro/Dark), and I was thinking of taking the Demon Summoning primary.
I have a few quick questions, first, are the Demon Summoning whip attacks any good, their secondary effects seem like they could be fairly good. Second, which secondaries go well with demon summoning, I like active sets with a variety of abilities like dark, and I'm not too fond of purely buff/healing focused sets like pain domination and force field.
