What would you build to solo +4x8 TFs? Would you build a Scrapper, Tank, Brute, Veat, or Other; any and all suggestions welcome.

If it's a Scrap, Tank, Brute, Veat type I'd like to have

  • HP * Resist >= 2500
  • Defense >= 45/45/45 Vectored or Typed
  • Incarnate Offense >= 400, Preferably >= 500 vs a Pylon and/or Rommy.
  • Immobilize or Taunt sufficient to keep EBs/AVs from running at +4 lvl ~= +7 mag Perma Immobilize.
If it's not a Scrap, Tank, Brute, Veat, then You'll have to give me some pointers on strategy and tactics.

my soldier is currently soloing a +4x8 ITF, and so far my limiting factors are:
- immobilize/Taunt to keep Rommy from running. Without Immobilize best I've done is get him to half health as he runs like a chicken with it's head cut off. I spend more time chasing than fighting. Gonna try Carnies Lore and an Immobilize build next.
- Damage, AT +4 lvl you're doing half damage, so you're gonna need 400 to 500 dps, or more.

This also just happens to be my Incarnate dps limit inside my "crab tank" build, such that I'm just barely squeaking by and don't really see any way to eek out more damage while sustaining my defense, resist, HP, and immobilize. I may be able to steal a slot to get another -resistance proc, and I'm gonna change my build a bit as far as immobilize is concerned, but that's about it and that leaves me very close to 415 or so dps, where 500 would be much better. In all likely hood, I'm afraid dps will be less than 400 by the time I keep the immobilize going, and that's gonna make it all a very, very close thing.

So, if I was gonna build something new, like say a Staff/Wp scrapper in i25, or sooner, what should that be ? And given that I want to do these TFs as +4x8, I'll need both ST and AoE damage. An AoE build that has enough damage with Incarnate Lore filling in the High ST DPS Role, is very likely an acceptable answer.

PS: Why +4x8 ? Because I know I can do trivially it at +0, where as +4x8 is a challenging me.

I'm just curious, but this post does not seem specific to VEATs.

Did you intend for it to be posted in the VEAT sub-forum?

I'm currently using a Huntsman/Crab Tri-build to do this, so I started here. However, given the type of challenge and preponderance of crickets, the eccentric scrapper forum might be a better location.

I would build a SS/Fire brute. I mean, built.

Defenses definitely aren't anywhere near 45 to all (I build for 20ish positionals), but soloing the kill speed is fast enough to keep 2 lucks on at all times and then some (which is actually needed quite often due to lacking DDR). Reaching enough survivability for +4/x8 is trivial and can be done on most powersets for every AT, I'd wager ; however, you can never have too much damage, and out of the so high I'm glad my username isn't tied to my real life identity number of characters I've played, the SS/Fire brute is really the only one that tears through +4/x8 like it's on +0.

For less extreme but still solid damage as well as much easier survivability out of the box (as in, without insps), Shield is definitely the way to go. It's hard to argue against a DM/SD scrapper these days. ~300ish DPS chain without Lore pets, ~40hp/s regen through SL, SC and Fireball for AoE while Ageless takes care of any endurance woes and pushes your recharge and debuff resist further. SS/SD/Soul Cardiac/Rebirth would likely be nice as well, less ST but more AoE.

I've had reasonable success on my fire/cold/psi controller taking on +4/x8 missions with AVs. Stacking a fast recharging AoE immobilize on softcapped ranged/AOE, decent S/L res and Rebirth makes for a surprisingly sturdy character in many situations. That combo won big time with the AOE buff changes, the ability to throw shields on all three imps + two lore pets in just one (well, two, one per shield) click is invaluable, and coupled with maneuvers/arctic fog it makes for some nice pet survivability. That said, with squishie HP and lacking AoE mez 4+ controls it's still vulnerable to bad luck streaks every now and then, and the AoE damage while decent isn't anything to write home about. I couldn't see such a character soloing the RSF or STF without extreme dedication, incoming damage is simply too much in the final missions without melee survivability or tricks (Phantom Army, Confuse, the usual). On the other hand, I doubt the meleers mentioned above could take on a +4/x8 LGTF (assuming the mitos scale up ; never tried it).

Then there's stuff that seems plain impossible on either AT to me, like soloing a +4/x8 Barracuda. Just plowing through through Reichie's humongous HP + res is hard enough, but having to deal with his fast recharging phase/regen/DP... Heh. I've had teams of 4-5 struggling to get it done on +0. So you'd want a defender or mastermind for that, and if any combo on these ATs can be built to be reasonably fast on +4/x8, I don't know how.

Aah, this is turning into a bit of a rant, so let's leave it at that.

it depends on the tf in question lol

with incarnate stuff a mind fire could fairly easily solo LRSF

ITF can be solo'd without incarnate stuff

ill/rad or ill/cold could prolly easily solo a dr khan tf if they have perma PA

id say if there was a STF it would be a duo tank and defender i recomend a force/fire def and invulnerabilty/SS tank

In order:

SS/Fire Brute- Fastest killer, and damage = less time needed to survive. Brutal combo.
Ill/Cold or Ill/Rad- Can kill anything in relative safety. See Silverado.
Bots/Trap- Traps has some nasty, nasty abilities, and Bots can help it with even more -regen, stacking seeker drones, and bonus +defense and heals making the pets very survivable. Again, see silverado.
DM/SD scrapper- Insane dps when surrounded, decent to great survivability with OwtS and Rebirth +regen. Lacks a little AoE damage, but should be enough to take on +4 AVs (the real test of a +4 TF). I have personal experience with this combo, and probably could take a +4 ITF in about 2 hours, give or take about 15 minutes. Should be able to do STF too. LGTF requires special tactics and may be impossible, LRSF VERY difficult to survive but possible. Dr. Khan is possible, but hard.

Mind/Fire can do some TFs, like the LRSF, but I'd call it gimmicky and not necessarily the overall best choice.
