My computer is very old and it has problems running coh, so I'm plotting a laptop that I can play CoH with and wondering if anyone have any advice on a good one.

I have been looking at alienware http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-M14x/pd.aspx but don't really know much about computers so any advice would be appriciated!

The key stats for the game would pretty much be CPU, memory and video card. Your budget will determine how much you can get. I would expect most anything from Alienware to run the game well or better.

The top Intel CPUs are the Core i7s and their lesser kin in the i5 and i3 ranges. The top AMD CPUs are the Phenom II line.

For memory, 4-6GB should be plenty depending on your other needs. Be sure to get a 64-bit operating system, btw.

For video, you absolutely DO NOT want any sort of 'integrated video' or Intel-based video. You want a 'discrete' video chip. These will be Nvidia chips or AMD Radeon chips. Top range Nvidas are the 5xx and 4xx chips. Top Radeons are in the 6000 and 5000 ranges.

These are all general guidelines. Feel free to ask more questions and post up any configurations you're considering for comment.

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

I have played CoX on two different ASUS laptops. The one I am currently on has a 17.5 inch monitor, which is really nice when not attached to my flat screen.

I bought, at the time, a top of the line model and it's been great. It's a gaming machine. You might want to take a look at them. I bought mine from Best Buy, I bet they're less expensive somewhere else tho.

Faster: Asus G53SW http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834230027

Even Faster: Asus G74SX http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...CE1N20T6E90JRR or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834230103

Fastest: Sager NP7282 http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np7282-...00-p-2881.html

Chuckers is talking about the predecessor of the G74SX, which is likely the G73SW or G73JW. The G73SW is out right now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834230028 Just note that it's nearly identical to the G53SW, except in a 17" fashion, whereas the G53 is 15.6".

The Asus ones tend to be cold, even for a gaming laptop. The Sager? Can't tell, never seen that one yet in real life. But the Sager one is abnormally fast. When I mean abnormally, I mean it's like desktop performance fast.
