Tanker Help needed

Hello!

I'm looking to make a Tanker, so I thought this would be the best place to ask for advise. I want a Willpower Tanker, but I'm having trouble with the secondary. I'm not a fan of redraw, so that makes me shy away from Axe/Mace. I have a Fire scrapper and a Super Strength brute, so those are lower on my list as well. I've looked on the forums, and everyone seems to have shyed away from Willpower recently, has it been nerfed, or are there just newer and shinier baubles to be played with?

Basically, my question, is what subset goes well with Willpower. This is for all levels and purposes, not just a 50 TF runner or something. If you could give reasons why you chose what you did, that would be nice too.

Thanks!

For Willpower, I'd recommend Stone Melee. It has great damage mitigation, which synergizes well with the healing factor of Willpower. If you've utilized Fiery Melee and Super Strength as primaries for Scrapper and Brute, respectively, you may want to check out Dark Melee. It doesn't have the Area of Effect potential that Stone Melee has, nor does it synergize as well, in my personal opinion; but for a Tanker, it has incredibly high damage potential.

I should probably add, I'm intrigued with Dark Melee and Kinetic Melee the most, since neither was a tanker power back when I played last. Stone, hmm, hand't really given that set a lot of thought, does it still look like poo (though I may be thinking about the armor...)

Well, I'm totally in love with Super Strength. However, Kinetic Melee is a really nice set that can do good damage.

Uber Talgrim - level 50 emp/dark defender
Uber Rod - level 50 dark melee/regen scrapper
Rod Valdr - level 50 invuln/SS tanker
Talgrim - level 50 ninja/dark mastermind

OMG!! Please add these costume designs now!

Willpower is all toggles and no clickies, except for the Tier9 power. Redraw isn't an issue, which is why Dual Blades / Willpower was a flavor of the month combination back when Willpower was new and shiny. As long as you avoid using attacks from your epic pool, you will be fine with a weapon-based secondary.

As others have mentioned, knockdowns, stuns, and holds are a Willpower Tanker's best friends. Stone Melee offers two AoE knockdowns, as well as a hold that can work on boss-level foes. Dark Melee has a heal which works fine with Willpower, but the single-target damage potential of Dark Melee is better than most other sets. Add Gloom to a Dark Melee attack chain and you don't need much global recharge to run a great DPS chain. More global recharge is better, though, because Soul Drain can be made almost permanent with enough of it.

I have a few WP tanks that I enjoy, I have a WP/SS WP/ele and a WP/Kin so it all depends on what you want from it.

Does the Kin's KB powers send them far, or does it revert to KD against tougher foes? I am wary of sending them flying when I have a weak taunt aura already.

Only Repulsing Torrent, as per the name, has KB. It's rather skippable. Quick Strike and Burst has KD, which won't really be a problem except against Clockwork and foes lower in level below you.
