Upgrading the 7 day trial to retail
Go to the NCSoft site, here:
https://secure.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/accountManagement.pl
click on "Game Accounts" and log in.
Your trial account should show up as a listed account (I just tried it, an old trial account I had is shown there.)
Click on the trial account.
You should get a page titled "Game Account Details" for your trial account.
On the right side there's a box titled "Actions", and one of the options is "Upgrade Account".
Click on it, and a box for the serial code should come up.

It does the same thing
It all works fine until I choose my 'Unused Serial Code'. When I choose it, it goes to a page saying:
To create your new City of Heroes® (Europe) account, choose an account name and password.
It sounds like you're trying to apply an EU code to an NA account. The two types are not compatible, even though everyone uses the same updater and server list now.
You *might* get a nice GM if you send a request through the Ask a Question form, who *might* exchange your code for a proper one, but no promises. Most of the time it is "buyer beware".

Is there anywhere I can check if my account is EU or not?
When I click upgrade account when im in-game, it takes me to the EU game on the website.
Just to be sure I'm understanding, do you ever see the "Game Account Details" page for your trial account? Do you see the "NCSoft Account Management Page"?
I don't see anything that says "Unused Serial Code"; are you referring to the box on the right that says "Use a Serial Code"? Instead of clicking on "Use a Serial Code", try clicking on the trial account name that should be listed below it.
Are you in Europe or NA? I believe that sometimes there are problems if you have say, a NA trial account and try to use a Europe serial code, or vice versa.
You certainly *should* be able to upgrade your account. If you keep having trouble, I'd call Customer Support before starting a new account and losing the characters you've created.

I do see the Game Account Details page, with the 'Reactivate Account' and 'Upgrade Account' to the right.
When I click 'Upgrade Account', it then goes to the 'Enter your serial code, game card or game time card.' page.
I then get to choose from the following:

I then choose the unused serial code, that should Upgrade my trial account to retail...but it takes me to the 'create your new account' page.
Dang, it does sound like you have the Europe/NA conflict. Call Customer Service; the worst that can happen is that they can say 'no'.

How do I check if my account is EU or US ?
I am having a similar issue, although I am pretty sure I have the NA version and the conflict might be slightly different. I'm wondering if the TC had his issue fixed?
It will not let me upgrade my 7-day trial account and I think that is the main issue, you can get to the area where it asks for the serial code and you simply select the unused serial code which is City of Heroes Going Rogue Complete Collection Retail digital version for me. It is underneath the serial code that you input on your own and shows up after you purchased it. After selecting the unused serial code (COH retail) and clicking continue it takes you to a new screen that says activate account or create a new account. Selecting activate account takes me to a chose payment plan which was confusing because I assumed I got the first month free and maybe they want to pre-pay for the following month or after bonus time? It doesn't matter because the system started declining my Visa which makes little sense as it just accepted it a short while ago.
edit: I had to go through Paypal...really strange as I had plenty left in my account. It just didn't want to take my money lol
The game is currently subscription based. You have to choose a payment plan (which is a credit-logo card, game time card, paypal, whatever you use) in order to prove that you are good on your subscription. You can cancel before your first free month is used up and you won't ever be charged an extra penny.
Obviously this step will be eliminated when City goes F2P.

Hi all,
I have a trial account at the moment, I want to upgrade that account to the full retail version with the retail code or 30 day game card I have purchased (I have both).
When I go to upgrade it with the retail code, it asks me to create a new account...that would make the trial pointless because I would loose my original account / characters. I cant use the 30 day game card because my account isn't upgraded to retail yet.
Does anybody know how I am supposed to 'upgrade' my existing account to retail?
