Help! db/elec build

So I dusted off an ancient brute of mine, theme concept, Harlequin type carnival girl....and she's so squishy it's not funny. I've read some guides and checked out other builds and looked at what I did for my ss/elec brute and really want to fix this character and keep in concept.

  • I want to keep jump kick for theme
  • I'd like to keep the +perception IO as I hate being blinded by foes like arachnos.
  • I'm not thrilled on giving up SJ (for maneuvers) but can probably get around ok with Ninja run & the jump pack power
  • I know this build is rather pricy but I do have some of the stuff stored up from ticket rolls and what not.
  • PvP IO's are out of the question for now, too much time/money to get one on my schedule. Something in the future possibly.
I'm not sure where to go from here.

I could take a slot out of health and stamina and boost my 4 typed to 38% or so by putting a slot into tough and one into one thousand cuts but I'm afraid the endurance drain will be too great even with power sink.

Sooo HELP! What can you guru's do?

I've not run a DB/Elec brute and I'm at work and can't look at Mids at the moment to see what you're building towards (looks like you've got some defense, given the kinetic combats, etc).

However, I can offer some of my experience from playing my Dark/Elec brute (which I realize is a bit of a different animal, given siphon life, touch of fear, and the -ToHit debuff in Dark Melee). I didn't want to spend the cash to shoot for positional or typed defense. So, I spent the cash on cheap recharge buffs (1 LoTG, some crushing impacts and a few other "niche" sets that gave me a bit of recharge, some +hp, but nothing super expensive).

I have found that the best way to keep my brute upright when soloing large groups is to soak the alpha and then use power sink (possibly energize first, depending on the situation). I have power sink slotted with ~60% end mod and an additional endmod in Lightning field. The mobs go down to a sliver of endurance and it gives me time to whittle down the ones who hurt me the most (and my primary has very little for AoE, so you should be able to whittle a lot faster). Yes, they still gain endurance back faster than lightning field drains it, but it slows down their attack rate after the initial burst and I "feel" like they use their heavy hitters a lot less often.

I also went with Soul Mastery (which, given the Dark Ring Mistresses might or might not be out of your character concept) - so when I think i'm going to have a problem soaking the alpha, I can "corner pull" using darkest night. It's handy.

What's funny is that I had just picked my DM/Elec back up after a year (possibly years?) of inactivity. I died nonstop, even corner pulling with Darkest Night against x8 Arachnos and CoT. Then, I figured out the "sapping" strategy and it made the ride a lot smoother. Still challenging enough to be interesting, but not nearly as annoying as before. So, it might be worth a try- just try frankenslotting power sink for endmod/recharge and toss in one End Mod into lightning field. Hope that helps!

I'm leveling up a db/elec myself at the moment. Don't have power sink yet, but I do have an electric controller, and I'll back up what Valorin says about the effects of sapping. If you can get enemies to bottom out even for a moment, that significantly reduces how much attacking they'll manage to do even if you can't actually stop their recovery.

This actually looks pretty similar in some ways to the theoretical build I'm working on. It's got more s/l defense, but less e/n. I'm beginning to have doubts about the value of some of those sets though.

The one thing I'm really wondering about is Blinding Feint. My in-progress doesn't really have room or slots for it, which I felt comfortable enough with, since I'd read that it wasn't that useful for brutes due to the lower base damage/fury. But it seems to be in most DB brute builds I've seen anyway. So, now I'm not sure.

I'm sleepy but since you have few acc bonuses you really need acc and recharge on Blinding Feint to make the other attacks hit and it gives a nice damage bonus to your aura which is one of the largest sources of damage.

I retooled your AoEs to recharge faster too, but I got rid of power surge and moved the perception IO to 49, which you may not like. I think I put an extra lotg rech too (I'm really sleepy)

Blinding Feint:
My first test build didn't have blinding feint and the original character, I think has every attack from DB. It is a build up style power so useful for damage and hitting, even though it has to hit to be useful, like follow up, so I figured I should take it but wasn't really sure on how many slots to devote as I feel if it's an attack it should at least be slotted to do fair damage.
I could go less damage more +to hit to move slots around I guess?

Sapping:
Yes on my current build I sap quite often, my problem with having 0 defense meant that I kept getting floored by alphas on teams, though energize helps a lot since they added it in (or changed it) to elec armor.
Not sure I have enough sapping power currently...
