New kind of aircraft: How soon until Batman gets one?
I don't know. I look at that and keep thinking of my tower fan
and the drum fan in my AC. And neither of them have the capacity to do more than move air.

Put the same propulsion system in a winged design. This way you have some lift if you lose propulsion, and it would also greatly increase efficiency in horizontal flight, since less power is required to maintain altitude, more power can be used to increase/maintain airspeed.
I'll give you one big safety question while you're drinking the koolaid on this though. Existing rotorcraft can autorotate if the engine dies. What does this do besides fall? If they stay with remotes, it's not a big deal. If they get into manned applications, that's got to be addressed.

I don't see this propulsion package completely changing aircraft as we know them, but if they pan out as advertised they'd make a great new type of jump jet...
What about firefighting? How many people could be saved from burning buildings without the need for ladders, if you could just float a 20 foot platform up to them for stepping out on to
If the device is so simple, roofs of large buildings could come with one of these installed, so fire wardens in the workplace could use them to rescue co-workers.
Far more important however, is the fact that we can now play platform games in the real world

If you tilt your head and imagine this not looking stupid while also looking at the D-Dalus image here, you should see the similarity.
All that is planned fails. All that is born dies.
All that is built crumbles. This will always be true.
But memories remain, And that is beautiful.
