Scrapper or Brute: 3xD

Hello all,

I want to try a dark/dark/dark. If it's a scrapper I might just go red side for the epic dark, because blue side darkness is meh. So, anyone want to get a suggestion as to which (scrapper or brute) would be better for solo play and level 50+?

Yes... another alt.

Scrapper would get more out of soul drain, but the brute would get gloom. And if you end up getting the top attack chain, I think scrappers can get more proc damage in as well. Brute will definitely be more survivable if you grab darkest night. So like usual with the scrap/brute issue, I'd say it's either slightly more damage or slightly more survivability.

You won't be hitting res caps without extensive orange use or outside buffs so go scrapper

From my experience in doing endless trials in the pass couple of weeks, getting to damage cap is relatively easy. I suppose the simple fact is that, with more people, there is a higher chance to have a kin there - just simple probability. So brute will pull ahead in those situations.

On the other hand, with the up-coming AoE buffs, it is more likely that you will get a buff from the buffers - their work will be easier and so likely that their will do it more regularly. So with a scrapper, you will still have good res buffs. Also, don't forget the Destiny buffs too.

So, in reality, both ATs are more or less even. Only a some unique settings can tell them apart. I personally prefer brute. I like watching my fury bar goes up - like I am working towards a goal for better damage.

Wouldn't scrappers benefit more from being at the the damage cap; 500 vs 770? Since they have higher BIs and and crit on top of total damage

With all those AOE buffs flying around, I'd think Brutes with their higher resist caps, and damage being pretty much equal, would win out in the end, under those situations.

I like the Dark/Dark/Soul combo for Scrappers. Higher resist caps don't matter as much, since you won't be capping them under either AT. OG & COF both weaken Fury a bit, though you don't have to take either. Brutes' Darkest Night is nice for defense in a roundabout way, but Scrappers' Shadow Meld is better and you get the full effect regardless of your opponent or where they stand in relation to any anchor. I like the front-loaded damage and crits over reliance on Fury, too.

I tend to favor Brutes for Claws and SS primaries or where hardcapping one or more key resists at 90% is both possible and critical to the build.

While it doesn't change your general point, the above isn't quite accurate under the current incarnation of fury.

It's been repeatedly shown on RWZ test dummies that a brute can hit the "without frenzy" fury cap* with just their attack chain.

* - or at least close enough to it that things like slows/fears/stuns are purely academic in their "effect." I can't recall the numbers, but they are somewhere in the Brute section.

From my experience with the above I personally would roll a brute.
