Mu Vs. Soul Mastery for fire/ss farm brute.

Hey all I am building a Fire/SS brute for farming and am starting to think about mastery powers and it comes down to Mu or Soul mastery. If i choose Mu i would go with Electrifying Fences, Ball of Lighting and Static Discharge. If i went with Soul it would be Soul Tentacles, Darkest Night, and Dark Oblieration. When I switch the two out the set bonues etc. virtually do not change. So my question is, which would be better for a farm brute ? My tendency seems to gravitate towards Soul for the damage debuff of Darkest Night but everyone seems to speak very highly of Mu for a farm brute. Any ideas of the pros and cons of each ?

Mu is better; -dmg is hopefully useless you should have problems dying. Not to mention everything should be dying so quickly DN is only up for a few seconds before anchor dies. Oh, and soul tentacles pretty much sucks.

Ball also does more dmg that oblit, think base is 10 dmg higher which ends up being 70 dmg. Fences, in AoE it does better DPS than burn. But it has the definite downside of -kb.

When i first started farming i believe it took my 6min to cap, when i moved into mu with no change in set i went down to 4min. Granted that was very long time ago before FE and burn buff, and i generally just sucked.

People still go with Soul on their farmers despite Mu's superior AOE damage because Soul is vastly superior for non-farm content. Gloom has absolutely great single target DPA, to the point where it's worth using in a melee attack chain. Dark Obliteration's -acc is much more useful than piddling end drain, and it frontloads its damage, while Ball Lightning's DOT can go to waste when everyone on a team is spamming AOEs. Finally, while Electrifying Fences is decent AOE DPS, it prevents the knockdown from Foot Stomp.

Soul Tentacles is pretty terrible either way, though.

lol, yeah I figured that tentecles would be pretty useless, it was more to hold a set. If you dont mind my asking one more question, do you guys have an opinion on Mu vs. Pyre ? I could see Melt armor as being pretty useful.

I resently tested it out. Mu > pyre. It simply isnt possible to always have an AoE up with either mu OR pyre so pyre ends up lossing out. And melt armor isnt useful at all really, its about 5% -res and only works on 16 out of 100 or so dudes, and its gone after they die and get back up as well.

Between those 2 Mu is better for farming until you can get your recharge to crazy levels and get perma hasten. Then if you feel like it you can change to pyro for a decent hold, ranged attack and fireball.

I used Mu early on in the 40's. Once i got to 50 i switched to soul. When i got enough recharge, all i did was footstomp + burn + dark obliteration. I put dark blast in my single target attack rotation. Footstomps kinetic crash procs probably 50% of time. I also have a speed boost hostage in the mission i use

Mu is still better AOE damage than Pyre at achievable amounts of recharge. Fences as filler is always going to be more damage than you lose using Ball Lightning over Fireball. Plus, Char and Fire Blast are more or less useless for farming, so that's two power picks you get back.

I do love Soul for its non-farming applications, but Mu is more AOE damage under all circumstances. Ball Lightning just does more damage than Dark Obliteration, and that's without including Fences.

By the by, unless that speed boost hostage increases your inf/min by 11%, it's a waste. You lose 10% of your rewards for having a friendly NPC of any sort on the map.
