Im pondering a Demon MM but I dont want the whip attack. for the secondary I'm thinking pain. I dont want him completely defenseless, so Im considering Flurry, Boxing & Air Superiority... thoughts?

Personal attacks for a mastermind have never been mandatory. Demons is the first set where I'd recommend taking the attacks, though, because of the -resist. That said, it won't be a bad idea to skip them entirely.

I would not recommend using Flurry. Air Superiority has always been awesome. Boxing... well, that's ok, I guess.

Look to your epics for some attacks, particularly AoE type like Lightning Fences or something similar. Keep the attention on you and your demons alive.

For every other MM set I skipped the personal attacks...

At a minimum, I would suggest taking the cone attack; any -resist attack is worth taking, it just means more damage for you when your pets are wailing on them.

1st attack is ranged as well, which is great for pulling....

but again, at a minimum... cone attack, if damage is a factor... any -resist attack will increase your total output.

I would strongly recommend against that. The whip attacks are superior to pool powers and provide force multiplication with -resistance.

I have the melee and the AoE whip on my Demon/Therm. I don't seem to be whipping as often as I thought I would. But I need to respec the character anyway. I am going to play with it for bit before deciding what to do. I think I could afford to get Provoke in too.

I suppose every little -res helps. But on a fast recharge build, with the debuff powers recharge up often enough, I hardly notice any different - but that is when I am soloing or in a small team. I would imagine the -res will multiply a lot in a big league.

I am currently running around with a lvl 18 demon MM, and the whip attacks are very useful for finishing off opponents in a hurry if your demons get into bother.

The one annoying thing I have found is that the demons get very close up behind you, especially the larger ones, which means you have to be creative with the angles you need to select an opponent, which often means you need to extricate your minions from multiple opponents, hence why the whip is a great weapon to have up your sleeve.

I have the leadership buffs which also help greatly.
