Is Assault worth taking?
It's a wash solo, imo, but insanely good in even small groups.

The radius of effect of Leadership is 60 feet, plenty of range to keep the melee folks in the footprint of the ranged AT's buffs. If you're using your close ranged cones and blasts (usually they go to 40 feet) on the same stuff the melee is hitting, everyone is well within range. And most Blasters are not near the melee players, so it may not boost their damage at all. Is adding a few damage points to some of your teammates worth the End cost? |
As for 'a few damage points', the same could be said for enhancing your attack powers from +80% to +90%, yet I rarely see builds posted here that shy away from digging through the DR to get that extra 5% of overall damage. The difference is that Assault affects not just you, but your entire team. Even on a team made exclusively of blasters, brutes, tanks, scrappers and stalkers, 8 players will give each other an 84% boost to damage. That's not quite perma-buildup, but it's close.
I noticed that of my 8 50s, every single one has Assault.
It's worth taking if you have nothing better to take I passed on it in my latest build in favor of taking confront at 49 to improve my tankerminding(already had provoke)

Even if you solo it can be a very solid power choice for many reasons:
If you team much it's definitely worth it, since even small damage boosts add up when applied to several characters. Solo it's not great but if you can spare a power slot and the endurance to run it then it's worth doing so... more damage is more damage. I wouldn't take it on a solo build if it meant giving up another pool I wanted, but if I am already taking Leadership (or aren't using four different pools for other things) it's a good pick since it works fine with no additional slots and you generally need a couple powers like that.

1. Do you use pets? If even 1 pet, you have doubled the effect of Assault. On MMs and many controllers it is more than doubled even while solo due to the number of pets.
2. Do you have your powers slotted to ED limits (95% or higher damage) and still have enemies with a sliver of life? If yes, Assault may be just enough to get you over that hump and drop them without wasting a whole extra attack to deal those last 12 hp.
3. Do you just like dealing the most damage possible per hit? If yes, then Assault is a straight-up damage buff.
4. Are you a defender, MM, Controller or other AT with low damage but high buff modifier? If yes then Assault will sometimes be worth more than you might expect.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
