DM/Shield Build

Looking for some feedback with this build. Caps Def Melee/Ranged and 37% on AOE. Its a scrapper tank build w/survivability. The only thing i see that i cannot get around is to-hit/accuracy and i'm wondering if because it being so low makes this build not feasible.

.....Every time you 6 slot siphon life with no damage mods a puppy dies somewhere.

....Also... Just some general thoughts.

..No Luck of the Gambler Global Recharge IOs?
..All over you have IO sets, then a bunch of just Normal IOs were you could easyly put Sets. Why?
..End useage is going to kill you.
..Why bother with Hasten if your not packing much Global Recharge?
..Stamina 1 slotted... with no end reduction anywere in the biuld?


Others will be along with other points. Its a start, I dont mean to sound mean, but thiers definitely a TON of room for improvment without breaking the bank. (asumeing your trying to do this on the cheaper side? yes... no?)

6 Slotting Siphon life without a heal mod.. a puppy dies again

Shieldwall is a good IO, but also very expensive. Before adding a PVP IO I would fix other things with the biuld. Also if your going to spend that kind of Influence your better off gettting Gladiators +3% Def vs the Res on a Shield Toon if you have to choose one. If money not a problem.. both.

Ancients are a decent for extra Recovery. The IO defense in most of your Def sets you might want to replace with Luck of Gambler. Shouldn't hurt your Def to much, and give you a nice +7.5% global Recharge boost.

Shield already has good KB dont really need to go that far into Steadfast protection Set. Just the Def/Res is good. Can use the other 2 slots else where.

Hover is empty.... Luck of the Gambler again for more Recharge.


Confront is empty... at least put a Accuarcy IO in it.


Might I also suggest looking into Regenerative Tissue: + Reg IO, along with Miracle: +Rec and Numina's : +reg/rec IOs.

They give a lot of bang for buck.

Try looking at other DM/SD builds. Someone posted one a couple weeks ago that was pretty amazing without using expensive IOs. I posted in that thread, so that will help you narrow your forum search.

Yeah it was my thread and Iggy posted this build, only changes I really made were the three Nucleos and Golgis in Siphon Life, its what I run on it now.

Runs Top Chain Smite->SL->Smite->MG and built for Spiritual Alpha and Ageless incarnate to cover the endurance gaps whilst ending up 1 second shy of perma hasten.

Compared to yours (GinZen) it has:
- No Shadow Maul (useless unless you PvP)
- Slightly less endu use and end rec (actually its so close its not worth mentionning)
- 56% toHit vs 0
- 36% accuracy vs 45%
- 134% dmg buff vs 40% (which can not be meaningfull if you reach often 400% teaming with Kins)
- No heal in Siphon Life but a def PvP IO would allow me frankenslot SL.
- Slots into Fire Blast (which is arguably usefull but I find it worth it even if it doesnt enter my melee cycle)
- No "wasted" slots in stamina
- I belive mine is slightly less expensive due to very less usage of HO, tho I m planing on going for it whenever I can score a +def PvP unique.

Whenever I have the money/merits for PvP unique, build is abit over melee cap but its not a waste facing Archanos Spider Leuts or Rad Longbow Bosses.

These numbers strike me as strange - I'm guessing that tactics is toggled on, so is showing the effects of the Build Up proc in your totals there.

That's exactly what he did. Without the build-up proc, he has 15.9% to-hit and 33.9% damage bonus. Even those numbers aren't accurate because they don't include Soul Drain.

The most important thing a DM/SD player can do is get good at leveraging Soul Drain. For most builds, hitting just one target with Soul Drain should give enough to-hit that you will have capped hit chance on +4's. Hitting more targets with Soul Drain becomes important for the damage bonus, not the to-hit buff. Since the damage bonus is not enhanceable, small damage bonuses elsewhere in the build rarely make much of a difference. Procs and individual power slotting make more of a difference between DM/SD players.

I don't like Nightchill's build. It lacks 6 Gaussians, which is the most efficient set for defense per slots expended if you don't include the 3% defense uniques. The build also has high endurance use, partly because Maneuvers has no endurance reduction. The more expensive build has the same issues and does not have any advantage against debuffers over the first build. They both achieve over 90% DDR.
