Causes too many balance issues.
Overpowered in PVP.
Too big of an advantage to one set of players.
If I wanted to change the color of MY name, I had to drag it through miles of snow. Uphill. Sub-zero temperatures.
Of course, that's only if I wanted it blue (or possibly purple.) Red or black? I had to dig a pit with a broken spork, fell a tree and split it into logs using just my teeth, and burn it in a fire I had to start by rubbing two llamas together.
I wouldn't mind the ability to change the color of either a global name or player name in chat, with some limitations (no black on black).

Techbot wants the option to choose your own, which if its easy to do I see no issue with.
