One paper it should be decent with the stacking of +dmg buffs and -dmg debuffs. PS and SC don't play as well since PS needs to be built up and SC is pure burst damage. I just think Kin works better elsewhere despite the on paper synergy.
Thats what i was thinking, cause in my head it sounded cool. but i didnt think it would play very well

I have a lvl 50 KM/SD who was on his way to becoming my new main. I found the combo to work rather well together and the damage output was rather nice. He got knocked out of the running for my new main by my KM/DA. KM/DA may not have the burst damage of KM/SD, but it has a very full toolbox with many layers of defense. It was costly to get it end sustainable, but worth it. Also, PS + damage aura can be quite nice.

Use Shield Charge as a closing power.

^^This. Target toughest baddie in group, hit PS, jump in, attack, attack, attack, attack, CS, SC, laugh maniacally. If done this way, you also tend to get more of a bonus out of AAO.

back onto the shield defence topic, are there any powers that would be good to skip in that powerset? I was thinking the AoE team buff would be a bit of a troublesome weight in combat, also I considered skipping confront as well, along with lightning clap?

And any power pools that are considerable in taking? I was going for SJ, of course. but is fighting worth it? or is the Healing set better for self heal?
Any comments on this?

Grant Cover is a nice power but not vital. You're a damage-dealer first, buffing your teammates is a useful second priority.

One With The Shield can be skipped if you softcap.

I don't skip anything else.

any tips on soft capping defense? I'm not sure how to go about this because most of the powers in /shield cover a mixed group of stats. :P

It's how I would do it as well, but it doesn't change the fact that I really don't like the animations with the two sets combined. I've probably never wanted to like a build more for it to not be something I liked. I'm tempted to reroll it as a Ice/kin tank for the potential -dmg it could put out.

I'm not a build expert but that has a lot of the same pieces as my own build (based on Fury's) so it looks pretty solid to me. But it's an expensive build. I figure about 8 billion for the purples (roughly 400 million per), maybe 2.5 to 3 billion for the Panacea set (heal and proc are the pricey ones), 2 to 2.5 billion for the Glad Armor proc (I bought mine with a-merits -- in fact I earned 3 in about 5 weeks using 3 characters, so I have two stored in my base ) ... 400 million per Enzyme, 2-300 million for the Membranes, I'm not sure what the price is on the Fury of the Gladiator proc, I have one in my base too (courtesy of Pumbumbler's big event at the end of last year) but I didn't use it in my build. And of course the LotGs and Miracle and Numina uniques cost money or a-merits too. Obliterations are cheaper than they used to be though I think?

It's best to focus on one piece at a time. ^_^

I took my own build out to the RWZ to try out the old RWZ challenge tonight. It didn't really count because my alpha slot means level 54s are only +3 to me... I guess if I really want to brag I have to unslot that first... but I was able to pull it off in only 5 attempts, and that felt pretty good. Even +3 rikti with 3 bosses and no temps, inspirations, or other nonsense is not exactly easy. ^_^ I assume I could pull off a real RWZ challenge with enough tries, but I'm not sure I can maintain my focus for that long, heh.

(Also, I build my scrappers with level 30-33 IOs because I run a lot of TFs... so I probably sacrifice a little bit doing that.. but I still did okay. ^_^ )

Anyway, all that goes to say -- you can have much fun with an em/sd scrapper with a build like the build you're proposing.

I wouldn't advise skipping grant cover as it grants defense debuff resistance and you cannot hard cap DDR (95 percent) without it - also a great place to toss a LOTG 7.5. I skipped OWTS as well for a long time but picked it up with one of my free slots from inherent stamina and it's really great. HP boost and a very strong resistance buff, takes me to HP cap and 66 percent s/l resists. I wouldn't skip either of them.

Actually pulled off the RWZ challenge for real tonight just after the servers came back up, only took 3 tries. ^_^ I swapped out my alpha slot, verified that the minions conned purple, and went to town. I demorecorded it, now I need to figure out how to turn that into a movie, just so I can be cool or whatever.

In this build i tried to keep purples almost out of the equation, and even the PVP IO's and oranges I tried my best to keep out, but some were needed to get my defense up as much as possible with this build, this is the closest i can get without skimping on things i prefer to have in a toon.
