IO confusion

I have been running a number of flashback missions lately, and recently I got thinking about how my IO's scaled when exemplared. I know the IO's do not expire when leveling up, but when leveling down how do they react?

For example a level 50 Damage IO gives +42.4% to damage, if I exemplar down to level 20 does it still give 42.4%, does it give the value of it's lvl 20 counterpart 32%, or does it just stop working?

Lot of math on that page, but the tl;dr version is this point:

* Level 32 is a key breakpoint. If you are 33 or higher, you can Exemplar as low as 32 with no penalties no matter how big the drop is. If you are 32 or higher and you Exemplar below 32, your penalties will be the same no matter how high you were to begin with.

Aww, don't be afraid of a little math!

If you go to your enhancement screen while exemplared, you can mouse over the powers to see the total current (exemplared) enhancement values for each power. It won't display the current value for each enhancement, but at least you can determine the totals without having to make any calculations.

To expand on what StarGeek said, there is a second major breakpoint at level 21. % bonus scales down but there are two caveats: Small bonuses do not get reduced (generally smaller than the level you exemp to but not exactly) and ED applies AFTER the downscale so overslotting for a key bonus is a valid strategy when exemplaring.

The key to using the first strategy is in the example of the ranged attack on the wiki page you were pointed to. Level 50 quads will give you the same bonus all the way down to level 21 (18%/18%/18%/18%). Level 43 triples work the same and level 24 doubles.

And, of course procs work as normal.
