Katana/ Invul or Super Reflexes?

well i am making a katana somthing scrapper just for pve porpouses im thinking of going with SR because with softcapped area defenses i will do good against anything the game can throw at me from smashing damage to negative, while Invul makes me very strong against S&L,if i get attacked by any other damage types i will be helpless so tell me what you think and why

Edit: well ive changed my mind a bit on the primary, im now considering claws, broadsword, dual blades or katana

How much are you willing to spend on the build? A lot = Invulnerability. Much less = Super Reflexes.

Depends on how Invincible you want to be!

I'd say Invulnerability then. Will you be getting Incarnate powers with this character?

Because if you want to be really invincible, you're looking at soft-capped defenses with one enemy in range and perma Hasten levels of recharge. That doesn't come cheap.

But yeah, if you can afford to kit it out, Invulnerability is very nice these days. I'd probably go with that over Super Reflexes.

Speaking of which, I should get back to leveling my Dark Melee/Invuln Scrapper. I'm kind of burned out on the incarnate trials. Haven't played for days. Though with the higher resistance caps and hit points, maybe I should actually get back to leveling my Dark Melee/Invuln Brute. Hmmm.

I'm hoping actually that the next Incarnate slots do less to homogenize ATs like the current slots do. Something to differentiate the Melee ATs from each other, for example. Especially Brute/Scrapper.

Doing the same trials over and over again burned me out as well, I still have my Blaster to Incarnate out.

As for SR and Invuln, SR does give you more recharge which makes getting to the top attack chains easier(Dual Blades would be good for this as its top chain requires a ton of recharge). And if you're really into doing trial content, reaching the "Incarnate Softcap" will be much easier on SR.

Usually in Mids I can only softcap Inv Brutes and Scrappers to S/L with one in range and not everything else. Not sure why.

I can pull it off with Tankers easy enough through. Well I have one fully decked out Inv/SS that's softcapped and one Inv/Fire/Fire that's a PvP IO from being softcapped.

My best advise, though, is worry about S/L def first, E/N second and F/C if you can. Assuming you don't gimp your build doing this.

It's definitely possible. Here's one with Katana/Invulnerability. Not saying if would fit 4c3Player's playstyle or probably even mine, but it can serve as an example. One application of Divine Avalanche puts the character at Melee softcapped Defense as well, though for that to be of any worth the damage type would have to be Psionic, and I don't know of very many that are tagged Melee as well.

and im guessing you all find katana to be a good primary? ive heard nothing against it but also nothing for it, how is it? ive never had it before\

i know it looks super cool XD

Update: i have a lvl 8(yeah super low but i just made him) katana/invul but i find katana to seem very weak (of course its unenhanced but still you can usually get some idea of how hard it will hit) will it toughen up and hit harder with more levels and getting the sets? or will it still hit rather lightly after all that

I don't think you need a travel power, but for the sake of argument, I fiddled with the build bAss posted and here you go. Still at the soft cap, 7.5% more global recharge, Super Jump or Super Speed as desired. Achilles' Heel in Gambler's Cut (you want that instead of Sting of the Wasp), and enough recharge to run the top DPS chain. I've dropped Divine Avalanche to make room for the travel power, but it's situational at best, so probably not a huge loss.

Two free slots and I'm sure there's still plenty of room for improvement. Endurance is probably something that should be addressed.

This build is just begging for the Rebirth Destiny. Give in to its demands. Yes, it approaches the incarnate soft cap when surrounded, and Barrier would put it over, but Rebirth is just too ridiculously good here. You have a ton of mitigation already. Your shorfall is damage recovery.

Katana is an excellent primary, though loses its min/max reason to be chosen when you don't need Divine Avalanche. Dual Blades is also a good primary. People telling you it's a joke don't know what they're talking about, or maybe just don't know how to build one properly. Or maybe they're just exaggerating about it being middle of the pack instead of a stand out most of the time. Do not, for the love of God and all that is holy, judge a set at level 8. No, you really can't get any idea how hard it's going to hit at that level. Katana is not going to be a top damage dealing set, but it doesn't suck either, particularly since the build I posted has the recharge for the top DPS chain. Divine Avalanche taken while leveling will make survival much easier.

Consider a kat/wp, it's not very tough to softcap en/neg and fire/cold, and da softcaps melee/sl, then on top of that you have crazy reg, crazy rec and a crashless tier nine, and no psi hole. With the new defense busting stuff in game, you want as many layers to your defense as possible, imo.

Katana is avg damage wise, its strength is the fact it makes it pretty easy to softcap vs melee/s/l with divine avalanche. Your big hitters come late with soaring dragon and golden dragonfly.

I threw together a DB/SR build for good measure.

-Top attack chain(BF/AS/SS/AS) with only about a 0.05 second gap between attacks.
-Very good HP/Sec levels with Radial Rebirth(Spiritual boosted).
-Endurance stable with the use of Conserve Power whenever it's up.
-Incarnate softcap(59%) to Melee and Ranged

It's been a while since I've played Katana, thanks for the touch up Werner. I had a feeling I picked the wrong power between the T1 and T2 primary.

Looking at that SR build, it's hard for me to recommend SR for an infinite Inf top build. It doesn't have any worthwhile Resist (yes, I know about Scaling Resists), it isn't HP capped, and will get less HP/sec with Rebirth Radial Epiphany than a perma-HP capped Invulnerability. The only reason I'd go with SR on a top tier build is because of character theme. I'm not poo pooing on your build, but I think that SR could definitely have a better high end build standing.

It's a valid argument, seeing as one of the highlights of the build(Incarnate Softcap) is not too needed in today's content. In future issues that might change, however.

The HP/Sec is still good without a lot of HP, about 65 HP/Sec if I'm not mistaken. Not Invuln levels of mitigation by any means, but it's still enough to keep you going I'd imagine.

Actually DA only affects Melee and lethal, but not smashing.

So you'll deflect bullets coming at you, but not punches and hammers.

Only if the punches and hammers are thrown at you.

On a WP your melee will still be much lower than S/L. It depends on if smashing or melee is higher while DA is up.

That said there are still people ripping up chunks of the ground and hurling them.

27.90%

However, I suspect the vast majority of those attacks are melee attacks. Not much consolation when someone hurls a boulder at your head, but at least it should be rare.
