Willpower queries.
Trying to nail some stuff on the upper end of my db/will scrapper. The 2 powers I'm unsure of are the last 2 in the set, the rez, and tier 9. SoW seems kinda weak for a tier 9, but from what i can read, there's no health crash, just an end crash. Does this drop your toggles?
Also debating the value of a self rez, I do die now and then, but seems like a bit of a waste of power selection, the thing is, I'm not sure what else i might take. I have tough/weave and combat jumping, will probably add manuevers, unsure of whether there's anything else in pools that's worth a look. Medicine for an on demand heal? Epic pools don't seem that great. Best one i could see was soul mastery patron pool for a blast and shadowmeld perhaps. Interested in recommendations, thanks. |
The Blast and Hold I also use when enemies decide "Hey! Look at me! 100% Resistance to Lethal!"
That said, I find I get more benefit with just grabbing Physical Perfection.
I would never skip SoW myself. The Rez is purely up to the player. If I could fit it into my build, I'd take it, but I wanted Confront for STF.

Strength of Will drains 50 endurance when it ends. Toggles only drop at the end of a Tier 9 power because players don't have enough endurance left to keep them on. If you're ready for the SoW crash, you can get yourself over 50 endurance before it ends and be fine.
Physical Perfection would be the only epic pool power I would suggest for DB/WP. Taking an attack would only cause redraw time when you use DB powers again.
Self-Rez powers only save you from having to use an awaken inspiration. In most situations where an awaken won't work, the self rez power also won't work due to enemies killing you before you can get your toggles back on. A hospital trip is almost meaningless at 50.
I can see why people spurn the humble self-rez, after all the ignobility of defeat is basically the only feedback you get in this game for making an error, short of costing your team a trial victory. Still, said trials are one of the reasons why I would recommend finding a way to fit the rez in there. I can assure you that you will find ways to die on BAFs and Lambdas and hitting the hospital seems a lot more agonizing when Siege is at 1% and Nightstar just went back up to 6%. Personally I don't bring awakens on trials (or other high level tfs for that matter) and converting three tier 3 inspirations into one is not only annoying but relatively time consuming compared to just hitting revive and being good to go immediately.
I always found that SoW is best used when you need added recovery for a battle. For example the only thing that really bothers my wp/ss tank on the lgtf is Famine's -recovery and subsequent toggle drop. In siutations like that you are left a lot less vulnerable. Then you just watch for the end crash after the fight is well over.

I have big rez inspirations in the mail. But so far, I just go to the hospital in the trials. The hospital is close to the action, and lets me quickly stock up on inspirations. My general theory on rez powers is that I'd rather pick a power that helps me not die than pick one that lets me recover faster from death. But I do think it's personal call. Nothing strictly wrong with rez powers.
Strength of Will is very nice to have. Not strictly required, but very nice to have.

I gotta say I recently discovered Leviathan mastery for my DB/WP scrapper and I friking love Water Spout. Its an awesome power.
Hibernate is cool too. That and the self-rez from WP you will find useful in Incarnate trials. Trust me!
I was thinking perhaps sniper attack from soul mastery for taking out pesky things like sappers, and shadow meld may be useful as a sort of brief defense boost. Is there much value in shadow meld for that? If not I can just grab powers elsewhere and save unlocking the patron pool.
I suppose Moonbeam might be useful for pesky mobs. I've never tried it. As for Shadow Meld, it would probably be nice to have. However, it benefits from high recharge, where the rest of Willpower does not, so you wouldn't be getting as much advantage out of it as some secondaries might unless you had an unusual build. Still, why not? It can't hurt.
Water Spout looks pretty good as long as it really is knockup instead of knockback, and "hurling them great distances" in the power description is a bit of poetic license. Again, it would benefit from high recharge, but again, just because you don't get as much out of it as others doesn't mean you don't get anything out of it. I'm not a fan of powers like Hibernate. Why take myself out of the action? Yes, yes, death takes you out of the action too. But some powers help you stay alive and keep doing damage without hitting the pause button. And if you really must, consider a temp power. Or just pop a bunch of inspirations, something.

You want SoW. Its more than just an endurance recovery tool.
At worst its an easy place to tuck your Steadfast 3% Unique (or glad unique if you go that route).
Slotted with just the Steadfast Unique, it will give you a little over 20% Resistance to all for a full two minutes - which is a very nice mitigation boost on top of softcapped or near softcapped defenses + high regen.
It's one more layer in your overall protection.
And if you can give it a second +Res IO, with Tough & Mind over Body - you can cap your SM/L resistances
As for the crash, due to the inherent recovery boost the power grants, and the fact that the crash is so (relatively) light, it should be an extremely rare case that this power will drop your toggles.
Unless you have truly horrendous End Reduction slotting, or did something nuts like skip QR or perhaps got end drained right before the crash, I don't think you will ever have issues with this power.
As for the self rez, I say skip it and as Werner said, e-mail yourself some wakies if you like (I do this as well).
