General question re: IO effects on Pets

So we all know that IO set bonus's don't do anything much to your pets. I'm not really offering too much of an opinion here because honestly its a lot to think about.. so I'm soliciting opinions if only for my own curiosity.

1) Is there a non-technical reason IO set bonus's don't effect pets? ie balance?

2) Would these bonuses help with the problems a lot of MM's report regarding incarnate content difficulty?

I would carefully posit that IO set's should effect pets like they do their MM's because it would, in my mind, allow an MM to perhaps run one of the less-uber (ie, not bots-thugs/traps) sets more successfully. Right now, especially with Incarnate content, pets without soft-cap defense tend to die pretty fast, and their damage output isn't as thrilling as it used to be.

What do you guys think?

Not that I'm aware of. I was here for the introduction of MMs, but I missed the introduction of IOs and any history as to why they work with MMs the way they do.

I will venture a guess that there is one hell of a technical reason they can't. The code and time to code required to make this happen could be daunting.

Allowing these bonuses to propagate through would certainly shore up a lot of weaknesses in the other pet sets. Softcapped demons and ninjas? Who wouldn't want that?

I would love to see my bots inherit all the +HP bonuses I've built for as well.

You're starting to get into the way way OP side of things, though.

Let me just finish with: Yes, I would like to see the invention system benefit MMs more than it does right now, but I do think there are much larger balance issues here that this would create.

Yeah, good points.

But its lame the bonuses do nothing... Maybe they just count for a reduced amount? Like half. Your not to likely to soft cap from just half. Not by just bonuses anyway. It would really even out some of the primaries like ninjas and mercs that have a rough time of things end game.

I mean I know it'll never happen anyway

On masterminds I dont even both with most sets because the set bonuses are horrid stuff like debt protection and resistance to mez effects values which are so low they would never make a noticeable difference. Instead of sets I usually go with acc/dam HOs and the resistance, defense, and build up procs in the pets. Thats really all they need unless you got a specially needs pet thats always out of end.

I have always been pro IO set bonuses affecting pets. If there is a concern for balance easiest way to fix that would be to do it in the same way in which they are summoned. Tier 3 pets get full benefits from all your set bonuses, tier 2 get 75% of your set bonuses and tier 1 pets would get 50% of your set bonuses. That would work and be o so lovely not to mention I wouldnt feel like i was the Forsaken step child when it comes to IO sets and MMs.
Yes please. Gimmie dat.

It really should happen. The pets are the important part of an MM, its incredibly lame really that our *primary* isn't effected by set bonuses. Unfortunately.... the Devs have always seemed to have a kind of hate on for MM's, at least its seemed that way to me. MM's have so many long running unfixed bugs its sometimes very frustrating.

The new AI bugs are not really "new" at all anymore, the pet-zoning problems have been here for a while too. So, I don't know, if we can't even get bugs fixed I doubt we'll get much improvements, lol.

Well who knows ;P
