Elec/KM, need help

I haven't built a tank in forever. I'd like to make one who can tank TFs/trials well, but I'm used to building scrappers where the criteria are a little different. How would this build hold up? S/L/E resist are capped, and I'm one small luck from the softcap (2 small lucks for trial softcap). With Kinetic Melee debuffs, Darkest Night, and eventually a Paralytic Interface and Void Radial Judgement I'll be able to stack a lot of -dmg as well, but I don't know if that's enough to stand up to the likes of Marauder or 9CUs.

Edit: Odd, the posted thingy says Cardiac Total Core Revamp, which has no +res, but in Mids itself it correctly says Partial Core Revamp.

Are funds an issue at all? There are things I would change in your build to add more defense. The closer you are to softcap the smaller the gap in the new content meaning your patron power will assit you with there -tohit . Also you could get more recharge out of energize by adding one more slot to it and slottin 5 doctered wounds. Power sink doesnt need to be slotted for end drain. I usually slot mine with mocking borament. Since burst has only 8degree radius id be using power sink as a aggro holder plus the end drain is good mitigation. With your aoe's acc is important. Lightning feild is underslotted it needs more acc. Its not going to hold aggro if it misses. Id sugeest eradication? Depends on your funds? Well thats all I can see for now. Im on my cell phone and im limited to what I can access for proper assesment. Ill check back in later

Money is easy to get, and it's already a multi-billion build with the 3% res unique, so if it'll get me a decent improvement I can spend more.

Thanks for your advice on the AoEs, I hadn't even thought about slotting taunt in Power Sink.

Energy defense is just as important as S/L defense. You should try to get both categories to 32.5%. Incarnate content has a lot of critters that do pure energy damage.

i played around with your build alittle bit to get you close to softcap on S/L and one purp from E/NE ill have another go soon my son is making this hard for me sory man. Hopfully this will push you more in the right direction?

I think it would be better to have S/L and E/N at the same level. It is probably not possible for both to be at 45%, so aim for 32.5% on both. Encounters like Neuron, Lord Recluse, and tanking groups of enemies can have a good mix of S/L and energy damage. Arachnos are one enemy group that really mixes it up. If you want to soft cap energy, your defense spent on going from 32.5% to 45% S/L would be wasted when you use an inspiration. Leave both at 32.5% so you can fit more recharge in the build.

One thing I didn't notice before in the first build was the 3% resistance IO. That one may not be needed. With the tier 4 Cardiac, you have 88.7% resistance to S/L without the 3 billion spent on a marginally-useful IO. At 88.7%, you would be one set bonus away from 90%. I see 5 Call to Arms in a power that takes pet recharge would work. If they aren't expensive, 5 Gladiator's Strikes in a ST melee attack would also work.

It is possible to get 45% def on all on a elec. Just come down to sacrafice. I have made ELA/ELM softcapped, ELA/DB, ELA/FM and my new main ELA/SS there all been softcapped, just depends on whats better? Personally i find that SS maintains a good continuety with ELA more than the rest. the lack off ACC ou get with slottinf for defence is fixed with rage and the crash is fixed with power sink... all wich maintain great mitigation.... I can make his build softcapped if he likes but he may lose ACC on his attacks.....?

As a Elec/SS Tanker, I'll give you a reason to Soft Cap S/L. No DDR. So even if you have to use a small purple to soft-cap your En/Neg and your "wasting" Def on your smash/lethal. It allows you to pop a small purple to counteract Def debuffs vs your Soft-cap S/L. Were as if your normaly 32.5% you might have to eat 2-3 small purples (or a bigger purple) to get yourself back to softcap. Being at 45% already lessens the chance of cascading failure right off the bat. 32.5% Can Suddenly and very quickly end up being -12.5% Def. Much moreso then 45%.

The only problem with that is defense debuffs apply to all defenses, not just S/L. If you had 45% S/L and 32.5% E/N, your E/N defenses would be hurting when you get debuffed because you are only planning on facing S/L damage. That is why I think it is best to be equally prepared for both, and rely on teammates' buffs to help absorb defense debuffs if you know you will be facing them.

I can't fault your logic, but at the same time I can't argee with it ether

Push come to shove, A soft-capped S/L with 32.5% En/Neg will be harder to kill then a S/L/En/Neg 32.5%.

I'm really not a fan of the "just pop a small purple" camp. Because I have been in Missions/TFs/Trials etc were I dont have a small purple to pop. Or even if I do have a small purple to pop, the only reason Im still standing is because I have 45% S/L that the small purple then pushes up to 57.5% (Apex, Tin mage anyone?)

I like doubleing and tripleing up on mitigation. Others mileage will very

One of these days, I'll try the 32.5% positional on my Elec/Stone. But until then, the following has served me well:

Def:
S/L: 42.2%
E/N: 22.2%

Res:
S/L: 83.8%
E: 90%
N: 45.6%

Yes, I'm going for the two PvP IOs once I have the funds/merits.

I haven't seen the need for the additional Energy defense at all, and haven't been in position where I couldn't stave off enough Negative damage, even against Romulus in the ITF (where we didn't worry about defeating the Essences and just did Romulus repeatedly until he couldn't take any more). I still haven't done nearly all the content though - are there places where more Negative damage is dished out than ITF's end?

Current primary characters, all on Guardian:
The Amber Fist (Elec/Stone Tanker) | Pixelbeater (Fire/Kin Corr) | The Sequencer (Bots/Traps MM)
Blakkat (Claws/Dark Brute) | Mhogus'thra (Ill/Dark Cont) | Wyldhunt (Beast/Dark MM)

Hmm. Lots here to think about. I'm going back to the drawing board for a bit, got a few ideas now.

How important is Power Siphon as a tank? I'm considering dropping it to fit in a travel power, especially since two of my best attacks are from Soul Mastery and don't stack the buff... on the other hand, lacking it would hurt when I try to solo something. Or perhaps Power Surge, since I can cap the three most important resists without it? I can make do with Ninja Run, but it would be nice to have a real travel power.

Depends on how beast you want to be? My Ela has no travel power (ninja run) thats the cost of softcapping the toon to S/L/E/NE I wouldn't trade a dmg debuff for and extra 20mile an hour runs speed. If u slot lightning reflexes, sprint and swift with running ios you ninja run will do u just fine.

I dont really know what to say
Electric Armour and the Soft cap
Electric Armour and the 1st 20 levels

Haha, hard to argue when you put it like that.

OK, here's what I've come up with. S/L defense is softcapped now, E/NE at 34%. I'm not seeing a good way to raise energy defense further, but I'm open to ideas. Exemping low would probably suck, I'd be left with Quick Strike and an underslotted Boxing, but I rarely do low-level TFs anyway. For other stuff I could run QS -> CS -> QS -> Gloom -> QS -> Burst/Taunt with about a .1s pause. Everything but Dark Oblit is >90% chance to hit against +3s.
Edit: and once I get the t4 Cardiac I could pull the extra slot from Charged Armor and... do something.
Edit 2: Moved some powers around, and Smashing Blow is useful as an attack again.

As a fellow Elec Tanker would you mind putting up your biuld? I am curious to see how you did Soft Cap to S/L/E/NE and didn't find issues else where in the biuld.

You do realize 114% Acc is pretty bad, right? You're currently sitting at a less than 70% chance to hit +3's.

I decided on the Soul Mastery build. I had most of the parts already, bought the rest except for a couple Kinetic Combat bids that I'm still waiting on to fill (I have Smashing Haymakers in there as placeholders for the moment). Took him on an ITF this morning to get started on Cardiac, everything went totally smooth, aggro was no problem, surviving was no problem. Taunt Sink, I mean Power Sink, was really handy.

Thank you all for your comments, input, and advice.
