Seeking advice on IO'ing a MM
I think Mercs can fly alright with /Dark or possibly /Thermal. Its not Bots or Thugs /Traps but its probably alright.
Mercs *absolutely require* Achilles heel proc. That debuff is the only thing that makes the set work. Touch of Lady Grey proc can be good too. If you have those, Mercs will do ok. They have solid 'dakka dakka' enough with those debuffs kicking away at them, stacking nicely with your existing /Dark debuffs.
That said, really, you kind of have to focus on something you want when it comes to IO'ing. Cranking up defense as high as possible never hurts, you can never have enough recharge. My /dark MM is Necro, but I went with as much recharge as possible and almost but not quite permahaste. It works well, lots of /Darks powers are quite potent but you really don't want to be waiting around for them to reload.
Honestly, late game content I think /Dark remains a solid set but your MM has to be able to hold agro, resist status effects, and get as much defense and resists you can stuff on your toon. My recomendation is hunt around for anything that adds +DEF and +RES and stack it to the sky. It'll only effect you (lamely...) but if you hold agro you'll probably swing it most of the time.
On the dark side of slotting, a lot of recharge for the dark click debuffs, and a lot of to-hit debuff can make the combo very survivable. Do NOT underestimate the amount of to-hit debuff that the dark servant brings to the mix. The PbAoE debuff, Chill of the Night, on the Dark Servant is a base 30%. That can really neuter melee attacks on your dark servant and by extention, your mastermind.

Heya,
My main villain is a mastermind and I havent really used her in over a year or more. With the Incarnate stuff coming out I figured it was time to dust her off. I gave her a run and it has been quite the experience getting back into the flow of things.
So anyway the thing is she is a Merc / Dark. And after surfing the boards for a bit realized they arent heavily favored. The concept at the time was cool and I love the character because Ive been through a bunch of a crap with her. But my questions ( as I need to get to the point of this ) is what is the general course of action to take with Masterminds and IO slotting. I have never IOed a Mastermind and looking at her its like well where do I even begin. More so since the pets dont even benefit from the global bonuses.
Where in general do most Mastermind players begin or what are the focuses for IOing a character like this. I thought recharge might be a good area to begin in but honestly does dark really need more recharge. (possible!) I wouldnt mind more defense that is one thing. But with her not being a traps or FF not sure how viable defense building would be.
As for incarnate stuff I was curious as to what anyone else was doing or using that might be sound for masterminds. Aside from that while I love my Merc/dark and I have no problem investing the time and money into her. If its better to use something else I guess Id rather know that up front. I preferred Mercs for their long range I could always change over into robots but I just wanted some opinions from people who know what they are doing before I move.
I understand shell likely never be a killing machine but if I can get her to a playable level I guess itll have to be enough.
