50 IO'd Fort Build: Comments?
You've got a few too many attacks in there. For Fort, I'd pick whether to go ranged or melee (though you can substitute Subdue for Strike, since they're essentially the same damage, just different damage types) and stick with it. You only really need two AoEs, so something like Spin + Psionic or Spin + Scream would work.
IO-wise, the only thing you should really be aiming for on a Fortunata is recharge. Softcapping is an excellent goal, but you can do basically the same thing with Mind Link, and it will help out your team significantly. It also makes it a lot easier to double-stack Follow Up and to make sure that your big control powers are up a lot more. Aura of Confusion is also #1 The Best for teaming for tough spawns.
Here's a fairly generic melee Fortunata. Aid Other/Aid Self are frankly optional, but I like them as more team and solo support. Some of the 6-slot powers are just there for Endurance management, so once you get Cardiac in your Alpha slot, you should be able to shift them around if you want more LotGs stuck in the Defense powers. I just assumed you might be on a bit of a budget.

I think you have too many attacks.
Between Poison Dart and Mental Blast, pick one. I actually prefer TK Blast because it's fast. Both Mental and Poison Dart are kinda slow.
I see you are a hybrid between Melee and Range. I've never tried that but I prefer all-ranged Fortunata. The raw damage is lower than melee-spec but you make it up for it with much superior survival (being range always has better survival) and easier combat (point and click).
Foresight is probably the BEST passive in the game. It gives great defense and psionic protection. You want to wait until lvl 44?
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
IO-wise, the only thing you should really be aiming for on a Fortunata is recharge. |
And I'm soft-capped. And I have a boat-load of Accuracy. All set for a Musculature, if the End use doesn't get me first.
Nevertheless you have some great ideas. Your slotting for Mind Link I especially like, it might save me a slot. I'll have to think about this later when I have some more time. Thanks for the input!
That's because I didn't slot in two LotGs. The build I posted will hit 152.5% with them in. Softcapping is superfluous once you get perma-Mind Link (since that + double Maneuvers will easily throw you over the softcap).

I copied your slotting for Dominate and now I'm at 150% Recharge, and I'm still soft capped. (I didn't need the extra +Ranged Def in Dominate's Thunderstrike to stay soft-capped). And I'm not running the Leadership pool, so I have somewhat lower End usage.
If I could find one more slot somewhere, I could get 155% Recharge by adding a slot to Follow Up. Hmm.
I pulled one slot from Mental Blast and moved it to Follow Up. I'm now at 155% recharge, with Hasten.
1. Mind Link is now perma (with Hasten) and in fact has about 4 seconds of overlap.
2. Hasten is not perma. If I calculated correctly it has 14.5 seconds of down time. Not too bad though.
3. Still no use of the Leadership pool, and I'm still soft capped.
Speaking of the Leadership pool and End use, what do folks think of the various slottings for Health and Stamina in this thread? Which one is best?

As for Health/Stamina slotting, a couple things. The Stamina slotting with the proc and the generic end mods is better than the 3 end mods slotting. The Shifter proc itself works out to about .2 end/sec so it provides more end/sec than a generic End mod will and provides more relative benefit the more end mod enhancement in the power you have. My Fort has 4 P Shifters slotted, gives 91% end mod plus the proc.
For Health, if you're single slotting it you'd be better off using the Miracle proc since it provides more recovery. The +regen in the Numi +/+ is a nice benefit, but not the real value of the IO.

It really depends on when Hasten cycles, but I wouldn't really sweat over it. Even without Hasten, you've only got 17 seconds where you aren't MLed, which is easily covered with a Luck or two (or just being careful in combat).
While Maneuvers is nice for defense, the real benefit of the Leadership pool is running dual Maneuvers and Assault for giving you and the team +30% damage and +13% defense. Adding that to ML, you're giving the team close to 30% defense all the time just by being there.

Hmm, this is a point. OK, here's a ranged, control-heavy build that suits my style. Any pointers? I'd like to re-build the Fort this evening at the latest so I don't miss a freespec.

Our builds are similar in a lot of ways, and since I just posted it for someone else, I thought I would post it here also to throw some ideas out to you. I still twiddle with her, but right now she has:
Soft cap Melee and Ranged Def, Aoe def at 43.5%
Perma Mind Link, and Hasten about a half second from perma, with only two purple sets
Three high damage single target ranged attacks
Five ranged aoe cones, one ranged radius aoe, and one PBaoe
A decent mix of Maneuvers, Assault and Tactics, as well as Total Domination and Aura of Confusion
I know this is not perfect but maybe it will give some ideas, I want the toon to be master of ranged aoe destruction lol

I have a purple set only because I got one as a drop, and purchasing the other 4 wasn't actually too expensive. (Not too expensive for my level 50. There's no way at level 44 my Fort has that kind of cash.) Anyway one set will probably be enough for me.
Hey all, here's a level 50 build I'm planning out for my Fort (who is currently level 44). If you haven't heard, we'll get free respecs for i20 and the aniversary event, so I'm going to make some adjustments to my build now to get ready.
