Server status on the NCsoft Launcher
I am unsure how useful this would be. I mean after you log in, it will let you know if the server is green, yellow, or red. Red being pretty close to full. If the server is down, is'nt it normally greyed out in which you cannot select it? If so, select another server.
I like the suggestion.

As an addendum, it would be really useful if Up meant 'I can log in.'
How many times after a downtime have you tried to log in only to get a message saying that the server is unavailable due to testing?
Well, maybe not often for US customers since they don't do work in peak periods, but for everyone else...

You know what would be really helpful and a great way to push that new NCsoft Launcher they've been pushing recently? If they put the US and EU server status screen on the actual Launcher, as another tab for City of Heroes, City of Heroes Test and City of Heroes Beta.
It makes sense, doesn't it? When you want to play, you launch the NCsoft Launcher, and one of the primary things you need to be sure of is that the servers are up. Well, right now you have to fire up a browser and check on the official site, or otherwise just try to log in and get bounced. Doesn't it make sense to put something this important on the Launcher itself? |
When I click on Server Status, in just one second (I timed it), my Firefox browser opens and I'm looking at server status.

There have been several times in the past during reactivation/double XP weekends when a server like Freedom has been greyed out and the Queue is in effect and you just have to have patience and select it a few times before a spot opens and you can get in.
It would be nice to know if the server was available before trying to loggon. I like this idea! Nothing more frustrating than logging on to a que.
When you say, 'another tab', what do you mean? Every clickable button (Account, Notes, Support, Store, etc...) opens up a browser.

I was thinking of having a server status readout directly on the Launcher itself, including readout for the login server, but I guess a link to the proper server status page would be sufficient, as well.
The reason I want a link to the login server is because it's the one thing you always have to guess at. And if you get it wrong, the game hangs for 30 seconds until the connection times out, and it hangs so completely that Windows interprets it as "not responding" and starts wanting to kill it. Once you try to log into a downed login server, you cannot cancel your decision and you cannot even Alt-Tab out of the game without going through the task manager.
I'll definitely be using the NCsoft Launcher to check server status from now on, though.
