Claws/Invuln Build Advice

With the Vanguard set soon to be unlocked for all my characters, I'm finally going to try leveling up a Claws character (something about having energy claws makes the ranged attacks make more sense to me). I'd prefer Energy Aura since I don't have a character with that yet, but I don't feel like another Brute or a Stalker at this point (though I might debate the Stalker still).

So, that leaves me with the Scrapper secondaries. I have a Scrapper of each of the secondaries I want to try except Invuln, so I thought I would give it a whirl. I also wanted to get some feedback from Scrapperites. Main thing with this build is I do have limited funds, and I do not want to invest in Purples for him. As it is, I do have two Kinetic Melee sets in this build with three LoTG +recharges, and that is going to push it on the cost front to me.

So I don't want this any more expensive than it already is if I can avoid it. Anyone see any obvious things I'm missing? I'm also debating if I'd want a Cardiac or Spiritual alpha on this guy... I guess I'll see how his end use is when he gets closer, but let me know if you have any ideas on that front. Build below.

Looks like a solid build that should exemplar down really well. I have the same combo, and I went with Cardiac and it's helped immensely in the end-game. What I've found is that claws quick animations and lowish rech is almost deceptive with how much endurance it can really use in a sustained fight (AV/EB/etc.) situation.

I would probably use Crushing Impact: A/D/R in Strike/Slash, and use the D/E/R in place of the D/E in Follow-Up. I would also probably snag the last Reactive Armor: End Redux IO's off of your Res toggles and put them in health for more passive +regen, but all that stuff is picking nits. (But still...that would take you from 205% to 245%)

I built similarly on my Claws/Inv...he's at 44.5% S&L Def with a single foe, and 33% E/N. I could probably even that out a bit, but he's been pretty tough so far. The Tier3 Cardiac also puts my Res right below cap (74.8%) for S/L ...which is lovely.

Only thing I can think of is the GSFC proc in Follow up. While Hasten is down you won't be double stacking it, and this will hurt your DPS a good deal. Drop the proc for a Common rech IO to solve this. Alternatively, the Spiritual Alpha could fix it, but that solution is not very exemp-friendly.

For Strike and Slash, Focused Smite has the same recipe, so I'd probably go there to make it more cheap. I wasn't thinking the extra .2 seconds would help all that much for them, but I suppose every bit helps. I did swap out for the Dam/End/Rech in Follow up.

I suppose the defense benefit from the extra slots of reactive armor isn't too huge, but it is fairly nice and shores up that weak point somewhat for Invuln, and I'm also rather worried about the end usage on this guy before he gets to cardiac levels. I'm not sure if I'd like to dump those for more Regen or not, though I do know more regen could help invuln.

Do you want to be using Follow Up every 5 seconds? Has that been seen to do more damage rather than using your other attacks more often? I figured I'd be happy using it once every 10 seconds and use my other stuff. I'm one of those crazy Scrapper players that doesn't obsess about doing the absolute best DPS at all time, though.

Quite a few claws threads going on at once, doh. Anyone else have any feedback? I see Xor has higher defenses, so it'd be nice to see a build if you have it (or anyone else). Or does it leverage that PvP defense IO?

I'm probably going to see how he plays before I buy stuff up for him, and to take everyone's feedback into account, but more info is always helpful.

One of my absolute favorite toons is a claw/inv. I've been neglecting that toon a bit with the Incarnate stuff, but it's very probably going to be the third one I run through the Incarnate levels.

I REALLY like claw/inv.

Your absolute core attacks are focus, followup, and spin. Add in a single lowby filler attack, your choice. (The one that debuffs def is the power builders choice, YMMV.)

Cap S/L, get E/N to mid-thirties with one in range. F/C can also get there easily if you want that too. In a crowd, you're WAY over 45 percent which makes you pretty immune to cascade failures vs most stuff. Get Dull Pain perma, or fairly close.

Let me repeat: GET DULL PAIN PERMA or close too. Being at the hit point cap is a huge factor that isn't mentioned much. Also, pick up all the +regen you can manage. Put that fat pile of hitpoints to work for you.

Hasten is also a must, and get some global recharge, but since Claws is so fast anyway you can worry about that less.

I would recommend the Spiritual Alpha. More recharge the cheap way, and more heal to fire up Dull Pain, is Way Nice.

You are at your most powerful buried in enemies. The worse it looks, the safer you are, because Invincibility is really nice. In addition, if they are in the radius of spin and you have followup double stacked, they won't last long.

Have fun! It's a truly excellent combo.

Definitely one of the harder builds I've tried making, couldn't quite get the recharge I was after, but defensively, it looks really solid.
Offensively... well, good for general gameplay, not anything "super" by the vague definitions we find among this forum.
Endurance wise, this build should be roughly fine, even without a cardiac (spiritual or cardiac would be good ideas, that depends on if cardiac is necessary, however).
Tohit is fine as long as you have 1 FU at all times, it's a bit low (versus purples), but definitely not bad.
Also doesn't really have any regen buffs, which was another thing I wanted, but had to sacrifice (regen really is just icing, it's really not necessary, just makes it moar ossum)

Thanks for the feedback, Mauk. I actually made a Claws Scrapper way back when, but couldn't get my head around Focus shooting a white wave of stuff at enemies. Somehow getting Vanguard claws makes it okay for me, heh. I'll keep tweaking the build... I do like the idea of more regen, as I do have an Invuln tank, and he still does get hit sometimes, even at the def cap to S/L.

I might have to go Cardiac with this guy no matter what, as any build I put together seems to want Maneuvers going to get me up to the cap for S/L. Oh well.

Thanks for the build, Ele, but that's... kind of out of my price range. 3 Enzymes is like... 1.6 billion alone on the current market prices. I might get lucky enough to have one or two drop on the Hami raids we run every Saturday, but I doubt it. I get the junk ones as much as the ones worth some cash. I might be able to work my way up to a Nucleolus in some of the ST attacks with Kinetic Strikes in there, but I'd probably have to work my way up to those as well, since those are 40 million each.

I can't believe I forgot to make use of Aegis as a set, though. That's way better than getting a fifth reactive slot in on a few powers, even if it does hurt my end usage. I tried to use some of your ideas in making this build. I know I could squeeze more out of this by slotting higher level IOs, but I like being able to exemp well on all of my characters, and low 30s IOs have been great for me with this. At any rate, this has decent Regen at 1.048% and gets def capped to S/L with Maneuvers running. Barely, at 45.1%, but I'll take it.

well with that your recovery is pretty bad :O even without maneuvers running it's a bit low. That second numina and regen tissue can flop to a miracle and perf proc, that would definitely help. Also, the obvious cardiac. Definitely perfect for an /inv.

It's mostly just me being picky, but the kismet +6% isn't like the steadfast. You actually have to turn that power on for it to be activated. Because of that, I never slot it in CJ. Sometimes, you just forget to turn CJ on (leaving SJ on, or whatever). So I either put it in weave or tough hide or invincibility, in this case.

Other than that, I'd say... gimme your @name so I can forward you some of my nucleoluses :P

Ele... you rock. And you have way too much inf. Thanks a bunch.

I don't mind turning on CJ for Kismet, but I get what you mean, I may push that around. Hmmm, last I looked the end recovery wasn't that low with all the toggles going. I dropped the the regenerative tissue in Physical Perfection for a Miracle. That balanced out the regen I lose with the recovery I get back. Still don't know if I like how low that is, but I'll see how it goes. And if I can make your build work... I'll look and see how the end use is when I drop the levels on the IOs. I'll have to find time to do that later. Bedtime.

You don't need the kismet. Put in something else.

Being a claw/inv means you hit what you are aiming at, period. (Perma followup is trivial, double-stacked followup is barely more difficult, and Invincibility means you WILL hit them if you're in a crowd.)

Also, claws is quite light on the End bar, I think you will be pleased.

I should dig up a build, but my current claw/inv scrap is still on an I15-ish build. (And still slaughters anything I feel like tackling, it's the toon I took on the all-scrapper Tin Mage/Apex on Test a while back. If you can run in a team with the likes of Iggy and Desdemono and totally pull your weight, I figure you're doing all right. )

Ah, part of the problem with that build was I didn't have accolades turned on. With those turned on and the Miracle, I'm doing pretty well for endurance use.

I'll see how this guy does without a Kismet, and probably add that in for one of the last slots if it seems like it is needed. I mostly like adding those in for the new Incarnate stuff against 54s (or even Cimerorans), as it's useful there. I'll also see how this guy does without the Miracle in Physical Perfection as well, as I wouldn't mind more Regen. Sometimes it's easier to have a feel for things after playing it in game. I have and Earth/Storm Controller that I thought would be okay for end use from what I could see in Mid's, but in reality, he got drained fast. Picking up Consume helped, but Cardiac was even better.

Well, it's your toon! (For example, I would never take Shockwave with an Inv. Ick.)

But on your build posted above, if you remove the Kismet, set the base to-hit to 39 percent (vs +4's), and then double-stack followup and have three foes in Invincibility, your to-hits are as follow:

Strike, Slash, and Followup: 119%
Spin: 125%
Focus: 126%
Eviscerate: 114%
Shockwave: 114%

Not too shabby vs +4's, and to be frank, your attacks are weakly slotted in that build. I'd drop Eviscerate and Shockwave and thicken up the rest of the build with those ten slots, but play what ya like.
