Dm/Regen, I think im out of date

Hi everyone, im in a mid-CoX crisis.

My oldest character and my first and only 50, Soulsunder is a DM/Regen, he was made back in '05 and hit 50 around I14 (yes I admit to using exploits, but I was blinded by the fact I was getting my first 50 soooo, ya too long to explain)

Anyway, Soulsunder seems more than a little squishy, im able to solo +0/x2 which is not good (my 36 brute can do +1/x3 safely, so, ya) and that only depends on the villain group I'm fighting.

Now he does have his epic moments but it seems those are far and few between, and aside from a minor respec mainly to get rid of unused powers hes pretty much the same scrapper from I14.

Now I read earlier that Regen scrappers can do some pretty cool things, and back in the day DM/Regen was a FOTM build. So it cant be completely bad can it?

What I'm taking forever to ask is that I need help with my build, I like the character but he seems too weak (faceplanting multiple times in almost every TF he's been on isn't a good thing)

now some particulars to get out of the way...

-He is DM/Regen/Dark. the epic is for thematic reasons and I really don't want to change it.
-Spiritual Alpha Slot
-And I love me my Super Jump and I have the vet badge that lets you get 3rd tier travel pool for free so no jump kick/CJ needed
-Im looking for survivability first, damage second.
-rerolling to another set is out of the question, I have altitis and the redo will just bore me and end up getting deleted.

Id greatly appreciate any help. I don't wanna shelve my scrapper, but right now it seems that my Brute will be a better investment of my time and I don't like that feeling.

The easiest way to make any character not feel so squishy is to pile on the defense. This is usually done through a combination of IO sets and pool powers, and usually comes at the expense of other set bonuses, like recharge and +max HP. If you feel inclined to go that route, your DPS will likely be lower than the alternative route due to not being able to run the top attack chain.

Regeneration is unique in that Moment of Glory does not have a crash, and its recharge can be reduced to around 60 seconds. By itself, you won't stay alive, but Going Rogue gave Scrappers access to Villain Epic Pools. The Soul Mastery pool (still fits your theme, I'm guessing) has Shadow Meld, which is a shorter recharging, weaker version of Moment of Glory. By going all-out on recharge, you can cycle Shadow Meld -> Moment of Glory -> Shadow Meld with a slight delay where you're vulnerable. This can also help you keep Soul Drain up all the time for maximum DPS. In addition, other set-defining powers like Reconstruction and Instant Healing are up more often, further increasing your survivability.

Search the forums. You should be able to find some Regeneration builds that use the method described above. Or, you can give it an attempt on your own. Either way, people on these forums can help you optimize your build.

You think you have it bad. I had a claw/regen!
I deleted it at 42 after 3 years.

I'd suggest a combination of what Syntax42 mentioned. Your first priority is recharge, partly because with Moment of Glory and Shadow Meld, recharge = defense. Your second priotity is defense, with a realistic goal probably being something in the 20s, and making sure that Shadow Meld on top of that gets you to 45% or higher. The level of recharge we're talking about should get you to perma Dull Pain. Not that you should click on Dull Pain whenever it recharges (wait until you're injured), but you want to be in a position where it's either up or you can bring it up, because effective resistance is lacking on a Regen, and hit points are effectively resistance. For additional resistance, take Tough and stack it with Resilience. Then pick up Weave while you're there. I'd go ahead and take Combat Jumping. It's pretty good for the endurance requirement, and endurance shouldn't be a problem with a Regen anyway.

I didn't go into as much detail as I should have. Werner pointed out specific powers that you should have. Reaching 20% defense should mostly require Weave and Combat Jumping, along with a Steadfast Protection 3% defense. Adding another pool power like Stealth or Maneuvers would get you to about 14% defense. The rest can be done with a few sets.

Dark Melee/Regen is a beast!

DO NOT DELETE HIM, HE CAN BE SAVED!

Mine's at 49 and mostly sporting SO's with only a few franken sets here and there and he's still a beast.
Regen takes a bit more concentration than other sets but when your on the ball there is no other feeling like it. If your not paying attention though you'll drop like a Blaster. Which is what I love about it.

My Willpower and Invul Brutes end up feeling stale after about level 35. When you never have to worry about 'using' your secondary it kinda cheapens the feeling of accomplishment, at least for me.

Edited to add: Since it hasn't been mentioned. You'll want to treat Siphon Life as an Attack now that just happens to heal you too. Slot it as an attack, the damage is remarkable!

Currently all of my click Regen powers are slotted 50/50 for both Regen and Recharge, what I'm seeing here is that I need to forgo some of the heal slots for recharge, and go ahead and bring him over to villain side and play Gwidows patron arc to unlock the soul PPP and get him shadow meld.

I would have to agree with the prior posts. Please don't delete. DM will synergize with any added defense as its secondary effect is to-hit debuff in all its melee powers. Touch of Fear is a great power not to be skipped. You will want to strive for 50% in global recharge buff with hasten to make DP perm, or go the accolade route. You can increase your defense with the power pool or go with io sets the best being kinetic combat, and siphon insight for your power sets. The rest of the slots should be used to increase regen somehow and there are many methods.

In the end you will have a beast to recon with.

That slotting is correct for SO enhancements. The recharge we were referring to was a global recharge set bonus from slotting inventions. Get Mids' to help you plan out your build from http://www.cohplanner.com.

You don't have to do Ghost Widow's arc. Any patron arc will unlock all of the patron pools.

Also, if your on a budget, crushing impacts and doctored wounds are cheap ways to get both good enhancement numbers and a 5% recharge bonus, as well as a couple other good ones.
