Ok Im new to sata sorry shows how long its been from my last comp build lol.

I have 8 sata ports 4 6gbs and 4 3gbs

At the moment I have 2 CD drives and one SSD to connect to them. The SSD will hold my OS

Does it matter what sata port I plug them into ? I assumue I want to use the 6gbs ones they are ports 1-2 7-8 so can I plug the ssd into port 1 one cd drive into port 2 and the other cd into 7 ? or does the boot drive have to plug into a "boot sata port" The manual is clear as swamp mud in a hurricane.

I think thats all thats left before I try and boot the sucker

its a 2600K i7
MB is p76agd65 b3
1000wtt antec psu
antic 900 case
evga 560tioc
bluray combo drive
dvd drive.
64 gb ssd <was the only one frys had in stock that was sata3> I wanted the 120 but oh well Ill have to add a bigger one latter lol.

I had a 2500K ordered with the same board from newegg but apparently it was stolen off the UPS truck so I told them to Buzz off <we deal with ups daily at work so they will cover it via insurance along with the 6 other stolen packages> and when I got to fry;s they had the MOBO in stock and the 2600K i7 for about 40 bucks more than the i5 2500K. and a 15 buck rebate to boot lol .
The MOBO was the last one in stock in Austin and its not listed on the the web page so if you got a local frys and want a b3 might go check and see but it was listed in there newspaper flyer so good luck with them having stock.

You meant the P67A-GD65 motherboard by MSI, right?

Personally, I would put the SSD on SATA port 1, and put the two DVD/Bluray drives on ports 3-4. (You could even put them on ports 5-6 if you wanted to, it shouldn't matter.) Leave port 2 open for now. Why waste a 6Gb/s port on an optical drive that can't possibly take advantage of 6Gb/s speed?

Since you don't give a brand name or model number for the SSD, I have no way of knowing whether even that can take advantage of 6Gb/s, but it's more likely to than your optical drives.

If you ever upgrade to a larger SSD, you'll want it on a 6Gb/s port (port 1 again, assuming you replace your 64GB drive) just in case it supports 6Gb/s transfers. And if you add mechanical hard drives, they can pretty much go on any port.
