Headache at login...

So since early this morning, on my desktop, I can't login to the game. It keeps coming up with the message about checking firewall, internet connection or server status. I've tried just about everything. Servers are up, so I checked my internet. I reset it, and that's all fine and good. So then I checked the firewall stuff. I don't remember my firewall ever saying it blocked City of Heroes. So I put it on the allowed list, tried again, still didn't work. I then just took the firewall down entirely for a second just to see if that would work... and it didn't.

I have no idea what the issue is. My system runs on Windows 7 Ultimate, and it's just annoying this is happening. I tried to get on the game on my mom's laptop just to see if it was still possibly the connection, and the laptop ran it fine. So yeah... please help. I'll provide any other information that is needed if I can.

Yeah, firewall is enabled.

And the version I'm using is:

City of Heroes Updater v1800.201002171501.1

Try disabling your Windows Firewall and any anti-virus/spyware programs you may have and then try to login again.

Have you installed anything, absolutely anything since you were last able to play? Updated any programs etc...

And are you trying to run any programs in the background that you don't normally run? For instance people using a bittorrent program will often use peerguardian or some other ip blocker and those type things prevent CoH from running.

And if all else fails post the results of these two programs

CoHHelper and Hijackthis
and perhaps we can spot the culprit.

I found the problem...

McAfee... I've had that though since I got the PC over a year ago, so I'm wondering why it was starting up a problem now.

In any event, thanks for the help.

I used to get the same problem when I ran AVG Internet Security, especially any time there was a patch. Because the game file had been modified since the last time it had run, it got flagged as a security risk. In the end, I had to customize the permissions and reboot for the larger patches. Since I cleared that stuff off and dropped down to AVG free with a few other manually run scans, I've never had a problem.

Glad to hear you're back up and running, though.
