I'm looking for a new controller and Ice is the only primary that I don't have at least 30+.

I am also looking to pick from either Sonic, Cold, or Therm in which I have very little experience with all three of these. I'm just looking for a new fun combo and would to hear everyone's opinion.

Cold is awesome. I may like it more than puppies.

I would vote against Sonic. The endurance cost will be a major frustration. It definitely was for my Fire/Sonic character. You can fix that at 50, but that's a long time to wait just to be able to function semi-normally.

Cold and Therm both have their pluses and minuses. I find having a self heal is very useful to an Ice, because you're often playing mini-tank (or at least tank-accessory), and the heal can make you a lot more survivable. But IMO Cold IOs better than Thermal. Cold used to have another major advantage in endurance use, but by the time you make this perma you could now have slotted an endurance alpha if you need it, so no big deal.

As a point of confession, I have both Ice/Rad and Ice/Therm at 50 and semi IOed. I like the Rad's build better. Thermal and Sonic have always been challenging for me to IO in general.

From a support set angle, I prefer using /cold with the long timer shields versus being more active with the heals that a /thermal has to deal with. Cold is really just an awesome set.

I rolled up an Ice/Cold just last night and quickly made it to 12 thanks to a sewers run.

I really like the synergy and everything early on but I did notice something... strange.

Even with inherrent Stamina I was on empty all-the-time. This was while I was solo sweeping and even worse when teamed.

I run mainly Blasters and always thought they pulled the most endurance early on. Always made the teens painful as I had to skip useful powers for the Stamina pre-reqs.

I've run a Fire/Rad and a Mind/Eng that didn't have any endurance issues... ever. Yet this Ice/Cold drains to empty every single encounter.
Just throwing that out there. Man I can't imagine what it was like before inherrent fitness.

Arctic Air is a huge endurance hog . . . and will be until you can slot it with SOs. That is probably why. But once you can slot it to ED capped EndRdx and Confuse, it is a great power.

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Fire/rad has AM. Mind/en gets Domination. /cold gets Heat Loss. Yes, at 38, but at least you will get some relief.

Of the three, Cold by a long way. I'm not thrilled about Therm on my Elec/Therm--doesn't suck or anything, just nothing great about the set--and I don't like Son at controller levels. Cold is pretty damn awesome though, and it's a thematic fit too. Good synergy too w/Ice Slick + Sleet, AA + Heat Loss, etc.
