I've also seen an Emp with the Presence pool, that one confused me a little. I could maybe see it on all Defender TFs where the Empath tanks....but it was level 17 at the time and didn't have the badges from Posi or Synapse.
Especially these days, on my Emp/Psi fender, I find myself wishing I could simply take more armour and more AoE buffs. Heck, even trading entire powers for +recharge. Because I do so little damage, wether AoE or ST, and I have to flick back and forth between buffing and hitting, I literally end up targetting something thta is dead two seconds later. Thats how fast things die; I may as well not bother.

Still, I do bother. It's fun actually more damage to stuff with res against all except Psi

I suppose 'mythical' was the wrong word to use. It's the go-to joke among my friends whenever the topic of horrible builds comes up.

"Oh man, I should make an Empathy/Storm Defender and take all 4 travel powers. Whirlwind too!"

You're missing the point (from the context in which I made that post). Maybe it wasn't clear. It does matter what a well-balanced team can do when you're talking about cranking up the content they're facing to 11. The higher you crank the content difficulty, the more important it is that they have all the bases covered. Getting good representation from all the strong tools in player toolboxes helps ensure that if any one tool fails, the others are there to take the slack. I focused on "well balanced" because I wanted specifically to differentiate that from teams that supercharge on one or two aspects alone. Some popular examples are capping defense, +damage (Kinetics), and/or -DR and -regen (Rad, Dark).

If you take the content that's passable for teams with that 1-2 horribly built characters and give it to people who know how to build characters to a "T" and the ins and outs of the game, the latter group could basically succeed at the content while facerolling on their keyboard. On the flip side, if you want to challenge those folks, you're going to make it hard on the folks who build weird, probably-not-so-effective characters.

Again, I'm in favour of content scaling in these instances, or perhaps some sort of voluntary difficulty adjustment. If you think you can take the higher risks, such as running a "Master of" attempt, then you get more swag and more booty, but content is still attemptable at a lower difficulty level for lower gains.

WoW does this, to the best of my knowledge, via instituting "Heroic" instances, which are significantly harder, require significantly more people, but also drop more of significantly better things. We got their raid queue. Might as well get their raid scaling
