A couple of questions about villain merits.

I've spent ages searching but I have found no good definitive page on the subject so I have a couple of questions to fill in the gaps in my knowledge on the subject.

A friend and I did the ten tip missions plus the alignment one and while I got a villain merit he got 50 normal ones. Is this a random thing or did he do something wrong?

Also where do you go to redeem them? I tried the normal merit vendor but could not see a method of using it. Or do you need to have at least two to be able to?

Thanks in advance.

The first time you complete a morality mission you get 50 merits. Every time after that you get a hero/vil merit if you are of the appropriate alignment.

You spend them in The Crucible. You can find it in Cap Au Diablo off to the east side of the map up on the hillside, there is a marker on the map.

just so you know, i think there is an 18 hour (maybe 24) timer on purchasing from the hero/villain merit vendors. so unless you're going for a purple or pvp IO, saving up more than 1 or 2 might is not recommended, as all other recipes or recipe rolls are either 1 or 2 merits.

Pretty sure this is correct.

This is only true if you happen to already be a Hero or Villain and run the morality mission that keeps you at that alignment. Every other combination of the first morality mission will result in zero merits of any kind (i.e. being hero running a vigilante, or a rogue running a hero, etc).

Everytime you re-affirm your alignment you get a merit reward of some sort. It just happens to work out that the first morality IS a re-affirmation if you are a hero staying a hero or a villain staying a villain.

That little technicality has bit more than one of my friends in the rear-end so I thought I'd mention it.

This confuses me. Since it takes more than 24 hours to get the second merit doesn't that mean that the first is invalid? Also wouldn't it have been nice for a message to pop up saying I only have XX hours to spend said merit? How else would I know about it?

No, your first merit is still valid. You can just make one purchase per 20 hours, whether that purchase is 1 merit, 2 merits, 30 merits or more. So you can buy two one merit purchases on two consecutive days while working on your third merit. If you save your first two merits until you have your third, you can make a two merit purchase one day, and have to wait until the next day to spend that third merit. Once you have a merit, you keep it and it is good as long as you don't change alignment.

As Soul_Stormer said, there's no purchases between 2 and 30 merits. So by stockpiling them intentionally instead of spending as you earn them, you are delaying how quickly you can buy things.
