House of Characters - Home Movies

Cause it was requested I post it after mentioning working on it in Cami's thread, Home Movies

It started as a joke about shoving characters back in the closet when lines they would say would pop into our heads when roleplaying other ones, to which the question was asked, are they all in the same closet? And ever since all my characters live in a Big Brother style house in my head, leading to hilarious little scenes.

In the middle, Black Radiance aka Roxy Acetylene is one of my main City of Heroes characters. To the right is Radiance, aka Fiona Grey, a sort of copy of Roxy with all the emotional reactions and none of the memories, the character I played most in Champions Online. To the left of Roxy, Kyle Rymes, Roxy's half brother, and to his left his Praetorian double Gina Myers, City of Heroes characters.

I was writing a piece of fiction for a large ensemble plot (Pandora for those that know) that deals with the isolation and trauma Roxy suffered after losing her lover/mentor/etc, having her powers made to work correctly by her father before he sacrificed himself for her, and this scene popped into my head.

On the big TV, is a home movie style clip about said events, and on the couch is sitting Gina, Roxy, Kyle, and Fiona from left to right picture wise. Fiona, scarred emotionally and terrified of people touching her, refuses to sit next to anyone but Roxy, who sighs and switches with Kyle, which pisses Gina off because she doesn't like guys so close, and poor Kyle has no idea what exactly he's doing wrong. Meanwhile, the events are playing and Fiona comments 'No wonder I'm so f**ked up....' at the same time Kyle comments 'And I thought my life on the streets was rough...', causing Roxy to lean back and facepalm.

Heh, same thing I though when I saw it.
I admit I would have to know more about the characters to follow that train of thought in the OP but I like where this piece is going.
It's been a long while since I tried a group scene. Hmmm...

P.S. I think you should color it.

In simple form, imagine the actor cast of a dramatic TV show elbowing each other in sibling fashion on a couch, watching the latest aired episode of their show and making jokes about the things they know because they've finished taping but their characters and the audience don't yet know :7

So I decided I'd see about some color. The way I color is vectorish cel shade and step one is setting up the lines. Each 'object' gets its own lines and so I started with the couch. I turned off the drawing layer to see what parts I was missing and ended up with this

Which....was actually kinda cool(aside from the fact that I changed my mind about the couch back meeting the sides from right to left now that I look....). And I thought, let's make a silhouette version! Its not the way I do the lines, but that's what layers are for, random fun.

I'll get back to actually doing lines right later

Um.....not on hand? I'll have to get Illustrator to save out a bigger version. And no, I'm just good at beating dead horses and since both places I had posted in no one had said anything about my messing around with colors I assumed this was just going to be another exercise in finishing something only because it would annoy me if I stopped

Ahh, that's a shame you're feeling that Kai, don't take it personally tho. It's not your art or anything, it just (well, for me) i've no idea who these characters are, or what the story is that your trying to depict. I know you've given a little bio there of what's going on, but you've written it very personally, ie: everyone knows these individual characters, they're just acting as they would... but i don't know them, and the bio makes me feel worse coz i don't get the story. This is just my opinion, prolly different for others, and hope you're not annoyed at me saying this, just wanted to explain why maybe no one is commenting.

Oh I figure no one knows the characters, that was the best I could do for a 'short' description, guess it doesn't work, heh! They are, were, or will be part of an ongoing plot with a small subset of the subset of RPers that are on Virtue, that's very hard to explain in the first place

I can't draw characters without knowing something about them, tried I guess a couple years ago now to just draw random people's ones but overall it was a pretty 'meh' experience so I just stick to drawing my own and occasionally good friend's ones anymore, which means rarely does anyone get recognized.

cool, and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm also trying to create stuff that's not just the epic one on one battle scene... not sure i'm doing it yet

If you draw an unknown character of your own, battling with an unknown evil looking guy, fists, fire, action, you instantly know the story, an epic battle between two adversaries.

If you draw 4 guys all doing 'their thing' on a couch, the viewer needs spoon feeding the story.

My very uneducated explaination there
