Are we ever going to see damage buff enhancements?

Damage buff is one of the only attributes that have no enhancement associated with it(only others I can think of are status resist and protection.) Are we ever going to get a damage enhancement for assault, build up, fulcrum shift, etc?

Obviously it wouldn't be a schedule A enhancement but a schedule B(20%, like defense) would be great.

Hmm... it seems so easy to hit the damage cap without one... so something like that might actually do more to marginalize certain powersets. I don't think we'll ever see such an enhancement... but I only make such predictions because I love being proven wrong by the devs

Isn't that what ToHitBuff is for? Or are you talking about the actual damage component for those powers?

IIRC the problem with allowing enhancement for something like Assault is that allowing damage enhancements would also make the power boost itself, so it would boost its own effect, continuously increasing the damage boost it grants with every tick of the power.

Something like that. It's been a long time since I've read a discussion of the topic. Maybe someone who remembers better will come along and explain it properly, or Arcanaville, who I believe was the one who laid it out in the first place.

Not necessarily. They could set the power to not benefit from external buffs (as they do with enhanceable resistance powers).

Technical Info Time!

Powers use effects that apply to a particular combat attribute. Each damage type is just one attribute, and you can mutate it in different ways:

  • Subtract it from target HP. This is what we call damage.
  • Resist it (positive/negative). Damage resistance buffs/debuffs
  • Boost it (positive/negative). Damage buffs/debuffs
By this definition, Heals are also damage. They're just negative damage. They can be boosted and resisted just the same.

Any modifications to the base attribute will affect all mutators. For example, the same Enhancement that boosts an attack's Damage also boosts Damage Resistance and Damage Buff. There's currently an exploit where it's possible to use the Hamidon Enhancements to slot a Damage into a Damage Resistance power, which grants 33% rather than 20% which is typical for Damage Resistance.

Obviously, slotting a Blaster attack (as an example) for Damage will not increase the damage buff that the power also applies to the caster via Defiance. This is because all damage buffs and debuffs in the game are flagged as "not affected by buffs" for just this very reason.

In the context of "damage buff buffs," it isn't possible with the current powers tech. A buff mutator is already applied to just "damage", and you can't apply another mutator on top of that.

In order for a "damage buff buff" to exist, the devs will have to introduce all-new tech and rework all existing powers that buff damage.
