What do you think about a dedicated Tip-mission Stalker at 35?
Yes, they can blitz through tips quickly - so can anyone, really, but my ElM/Nin and KM/EA have more alignment merits than my other characters.
it has gone from unconscionable to downright appalling that we have no way of measuring our characters' wetness.

I've noticed that a lot of tip missions are partly stealth-able, and involve whacking a boss or LT at the end.
It occurs to me that Stalkers are pretty good at exactly those things. Since tip missions give a consistent reward for completion, there's comparatively less incentive to run them on high player-count difficulties (i.e., x8) and relativley more incentive to just knock them off. Since I would like to level-lock a character for recipe gambles, I won't even be getting purples. Would a Stalker in fact be good for blasting through tip missions? Assuming I was level-locking the character at 35, which powersets would you recommend? |
That said, Stalkers are quite good at certain Tip Missions.
One possible drawback here is that getting Tips at all is, in itself a random
drop from mob kills, so if you only kill a couple guys, it may be harder to
get additional Tips quickly.
Along with Tips, there are lots of Ouros missions that are stealth friendly
as well which stalkers can run pretty quickly (though those won't help if
your sole goal is A-merits, but they can be nice for R-merits).
Also, one nice little perk with those, is the Day Job you get if you park in
Ouros. It gives a higher chance to get recipes for a short time.
In any case, your typical Stalker can run these pretty effectively, and I'd
add that most builds would be fine for it.

There are still some recipes that only appear at level 35 (Kinetic Combat), but you can be level 50 and still have exactly the same chance to get that recipe with a random roll.
I've always started getting IO sets around level 30, but lots of people currently wait until level 50 to IO their characters. With Incarnates there's just that much less incentive to IO early.
Hitting level 50 is no longer the end point of a character's career, it's a midlife crisis.
So, I'll certainly applaud you for locking a character and making more recipes available for those who like to use IO sets in the 30s. But they seem less important now them than they used to be.
You could clear a set of five tip missions in about 20-25m on a lvl 35 stalker. I use burst on con-gray minion groups to get tip drops, usually takes one to two minutes. Then do the missions, hitting any large groups on the way. At level fifty it sometimes takes up to 35m to clear 5 tips, but that's if drops are stubborn.
The nice thing is that you can choose which level you want for rolls (1 alignment merit = 5 orange recipes at chosen level) or you can go up to lvl 50 and choose specific recipes. LotG: +recharge seems to be the most cost effective recipe at the moment, giving you 220m every four days on Virtue. It is actually a better buy than most purples or PVP IOs. I tend to average around 100m for level 50 reward rolls.
