Returning to the game trying a brute

Sadly, I have been away from the game for awhile. I am just getting back into it and I'm really enjoying the changes so far.

I do have a question I hope you can help me with. I have two brute characters that I started post ED but I'm wondering which one to take to 50 post I-19. I have a ss/elec and an ss/shield brute (both are low level). As you can see, I enjoy SS but with all the changes, which one should I keep or has ss/ been changed enough that its time for a brand new brute?

My search-fu is bad but if you have any advice for a returning player, I'm all ears.

Thanks!

well both are pretty strong. SS\SD is one of those FOTM set combinations that may people like. I have a SS\ELEC (50) and I LOVE him. I don't recall the time line of things, but /elec now has energize, which is a +regen\+heal\-end usage power, which is really nice.

I don't think shields has changed all that much (although I'm sure someone will correct me if not).

I personally would work on both..they both are a lot of fun.

It's really going to depend if you prefer a resistance armor or a defensive armor set. Both combos can be made very strong and neither will disappoint, but the playstyles differ a bit from my experience.

What levels are the two brutes currently?

I just got one brute to level 24 (SS/SD) and the other (SS/elec) to 22 for SOs. I thought about looking into sets but they seem very expensive. Thanks for the information. I need to look into the defense vs resistance numbers. Is MID's still reliable for those numbers?

Mids is still very reliable. Personally, I would go for SS/SD. I tend to prefer the superior safety of defense over resistance. On top of that, at level 35 you gain access to Shield Charge. That power is... amazing.

That said, /Elec is still a very good choice. It really boils down to whatever you prefer. Can't go wrong either way.

This is a good point. Defense sets, with softcapped numbers, is almost easy mode, and then you add Shield Charge and it just feels like cheating.

Conversely, a well built resistance set with a self heal/+regen like Energize can make you feel extremely durable. The durability of your brute is equally as addictive as the elusiveness of defense.

Either way you'll have fun. If you are shying away from spending gobs about of inf then you might prefer /Elec since /SD can take a bit of inf to softcap sufficiently. Well, I haven't been buying or selling much since the market merge (just re-subbed over the weekend) so softcapping might be cheaper or more expensive than what I remember.
