Hi Folks,
I'm a recent returnee to the game and I'm looking for critique. I'm going to respec my toon to take advantage of the free Fitness pool. I have a Lvl 50 Spines/Fire Armor Scrapper. I currently have the following (I'm trying to get a solid defense with this toon):

Attacks:
1)Lunge (6 slotted) 4 Kinetic Combat & 2 Pounding Slugfest

With the free Fitness Pool, I'm looking to pick up Weave at least. Does anyone have any suggestions. My apologies that it isn't in Mids format but Mids is on my other machine and I'm away. Thanks for any help / critiques!!

I don't feel like putting all of that into Mids'. Seeing the defense numbers is much easier on Mids' for sure. Post a build exported from Mids' when you get a chance please.

Those defense numbers are not high enough to make a big difference. You would still have to pop a lot of purples to soft cap. Also, you didn't include Weave but you got Boxing and Tough. Weave gives the most defense from all of the pool powers.

I recently revised my Spines/Fire build due to the soaring prices on Enzymes. The alternative was another very expensive IO (Gladiator's 3% defense), but it can be purchased with Hero merits. This build is designed to soft cap against Melee + Ranged + AoE by using one small purple inspiration. It sacrifices some damage and recharge, but I figure a dead Scrapper does less damage than a defensive one. Also, the damage auras count for a significant portion of your DPS.

Thanks for this Syntax and sorry for the delayed response. Yeah, no Weave but I alluded to that as this is a pre-I19 build where Stamina wasn't for free. Now I have a number of powers freed up and Weave is definitely one that I'm interested. You mention the decrease in firepower. How does this actually play? Is it something noticeable? Thanks again for the input!

That sure looks a lot more solid than my current planned build (below)! When you say you sacrificed damage, did you mean in the ancillary (Fireball, or Ball Lightning in my case)? Spine Burst and Throw Spines recharge so very fast I wonder if you even miss an ancillary AoE. It looks like an incredible build, and a LOT less expensive than mine since it doesn't use Kinetic Combat (ignoring for a moment the Gladiator 3%).

(Just based on the power picks) I'm in the process of updating my spines/fire too, doubt you'd be all that interested in the build because it doesn't achieve s/l soft cap by anymeans.

However, one thing I can say, Fire epic pool, fire blast and fireball (and to a lesser extent, ring of fire)

After playing with fire blast a while I realized it quickly outstripped lunge in my attack chain for recharge/damage/animation and it's ranged, and I'm sure as you're aware the people left alive when you're fighting tend not to be the ones near you.

Also, Fireball is amazing, fire ball (since it's a TAoE) can easily hit the entire spawn, is quick to activate, takes Firey embrace bonuses, and fits perfectly in with throw spines (or centered on a guy near you, spine burst). I also went ahead and stuck the ragnarok chance for knockdown in there, which is a high enough chance of knockdown as to safely mitigate at least some of the alpha on an 8 man spawn easily. (use this to cover my slightly higher vulnerability).

So, I'm not sure what you'd like to do with the extra spots (Probably just slot mule it up) I took leadership simply so I could have vengeance, because on avenging my own death isn't enough (RoTP) I figured I ought to fit others in there as well.
