My Art and WIP'S

These first two are a couple of commissions I finished up recently. Both of them had me deviating from the characters' costumes in City of Heroes and going with something closer to what they wanted their characters to have.

The first one is for anachrodragon and her hubby.

This one is a character called Solipist.

Hope you guys enjoy them. I'll keep the thread going as I get some more work done and posted.

Very cool stuff! Save me a spot in line!

Oh cool, nice to see an inker here now too, do you do color work as well?

On that 2nd piece I think the name might actually be Solipsist if it's wordplay on the epistemological position that one's mind is all that can be known or verified and knowledge of anything outside of one's mind (the outside world or other minds) is impossible and may actually not exist. That would be a fun one to role play with the right binds and...
err ok, way off topic. *takes off geek hat* Ummm nice artz, very Lovecraft-ian, post moar naoz!

Oh and welcome to the forums Geek Boy.

@Caemgen: lol wondered how long it would be until you popped up.

Sounds like my father-in-law. Doesn't believe a word you tell him unless he already knows it himself, lol.

Oh man, I love your Solip(s)ist! Nothing beats being a hero in your own head.

It's an absolutely brilliant piece of art too. A solipsist-detective. Brilliant.

Solipsist: "When you have eliminated all that you are looking at, then whatever remains, however imaginary, must be the truth."

That sounds like how he described the character certainly and he's supposed to be very Ditko inspired, so that sounds right. I'll have to check my email to see which one of us spelled it wrong.

Right now I'm just doing black and white because I'm selling the actual piece and you can't physically color the original on Photoshop and I'm not quite motivated enough to start attacking these with watercolors or acrylics quite yet. Besides, I honestly really enjoy working in black and white and the challenge of capturing everything without relying on color to bring my point across.

I also think the vast majority of even professional computer coloring is terrible, but that's the art snob in me and a topic for another day.

Hey everybody. I'm the one who commissioned the Solipsist piece. The character concept is pretty much exactly as ChristopherRobin and airhead described it, and it still tickles me after all this time.

(Illusion/FF, by the way: creates his own reality, shuts out anything he denies.)

Anyway, back to the REAL topic here, Geekboy's art. I'm overjoyed with the work he did on that piece, and look forward to receiving it in the mail. Even the rough spec sketches he sent me were amazing; he has a real grasp of form and composition, and I'm happy to see justice done to my favorite character.

(Kicking myself for not asking for the Solipsist's emblem -- the eye symbol -- as a lapel pin or something, but oh well.)

Of course, I shelled out a little more than the price he's quoting here (as did the other commission, I believe), but I guarantee that you won't be disappointed in the work.

Thanks again, Geekboy.

By the way, your piece is in the mail. It should be there in 2-3 days and I hope you like it just as much when you see it in person.

I almost added his symbol to his tie pin or maybe the tie itself, but you hadn't mentioned it specifically and I wasn't sure if it was something that you wanted or not and forgot to ask.

Yeah, both of these were for significantly more than the prices I'm advertising, so I made sure I pored my heart and soul into them to be sure they got their money's worth. Everyone seems happy thus far, so hopefully I can continue that streak.

Here's my newest piece for Kaemgen.

This one was a good time since I had an easy excuse to do a high contrast piece. I looooove lots of black in an image.

Posted

That is some great use of contrast. Is that Fenian Wolf looking at a clone of herself? Or is she the clone?
Also is there some meaning to one being in the dark (villain, vigilante) and the other
being in the light (Hero, Rogue) or is that just coincidence?

The Fenian in the tank's head seems a bit large for her body but that could just be my impression.

Very nicely done GeekBoy.

Akk Fenian Wolf's are clones.

The original was a clone whose powers faded not long after birth/hatching/whatever you want to call it... But she wanted the life of adventure, the ecxitement of it... So she signed up with Arachnos for the training and to steal the equipment and then went AWOL to live life her own way.

Alas, as it turns out, the powers aren't all that fade. Seems the clone body had a built in lifespan as well. (Hmm, wasn't thinking Bladerunner but maybe was subconsciously...) Fortunately, Fenian Wolf had access to a cloning facility thanks to a run in with Protean! With a little help from a mysterious Doc M (heh) a process of transfering memories and skills from one clone to the next was developed.

This memory transfer is built into the helmet - whenever Fen Wolf dies (due to built in timer or accidental) the memories are transfered and the next clone birthed... Thus Fen Wolf almost never takes off the helmet so that no memories are lost. (bad part is that even the memories of the dying are transferred...)

For this piece I wanted one of those rare moments when she does take off the helmet. I was thinking of an introspective piece of Fenian Wolf contemplating the situation, the morality, the death after death after death... And I think this piece captures it great!

Then perhaps I'll have to give a synopsis after each of the rest... Most of the arts he's doing for me are more mood pieces rather than classic pinup

Nice art work you got there, Kinda has a bit of a Lovecraft vibe to it.

I give you, BATTLE SANTA!

The idea was Santa and his (Lord of the Rings) Elves. Done for fun for an online contest I take part in every month.

Christmas and New Years along with another art commitment slowed me down, but here is the next completed commission. Another one for Caemgen.

Daybreaker Alpha outside his armor in a lonely moment.

Thanks man!

Not every moment can be all super heroics... Sometimes you just need a little downtime!

I've got some free time and an empty wallet if anyone wants to hit me up. I just finished directing (and accidentally starring in) a community theater show that ate up all my time after work (oh yeah, I finally found a new job too) so I'm looking for things to work on.
