nVidia 260.99 drives and SLI
I've seen this before in the game - I think it may have something to do with Ultra Mode. Sounds like some kind of memory dump problem?
I'm also using GTX 295 w/ SLI on the same (current) drivers and I have seen it as well.
In fact, it happens almost all the time. I can set it to rights without a complete reboot by going to my nvidia panel and doing something that changes the screen res and back, but this is really annoying too.
I've found that if I leave SLI disabled from the NVIDIA control panel, then these problems don't occur; they're apparently only occurring when SLI is enabled. Also, if SLI is enabled and I crash instead of properly exit the game, then I can restart and rejoin without the problems.
It's frustrating -- if SLI is on, then I can play and get fast frame rates with nice graphics, but have to reset everything if I exit and want to play again -- otherwise the frame rate is so slow it can take a ten-count for clicks to register on buttons and menus, and the game world is often entirely absent behind the interface. If I leave SLI off ... it all runs fine, but then I'm missing one of the best improvements from i19.
Opening the contact list almost always triggers the glitch that crashes CoH with an OpenGL error that people have been posting about. It's as if the contact list pictures are part of the problem because opening the contact list on the Tips tab doesn't cause the OpenGL error.
I have also found that by disabling the Bloom setting a strange darkening of my graphics (which I could sometimes fix with /unloadgfx, but not consistently) stopped happening when the glitch happens from opening the contact list when it doesn't out right crash.
I have 470 gtx sli and with sli enabled - i get 1-5 fps it's terrible. If I disable sli it runs just fine - I have tried alternate frame rendering 1 and 2 and nothing it still is crap.
After I installed the 260.99 nVidia drivers my FPS went from around 30 to 60, and holding steady. These new drivers seem to be using my Quad SLI GTX 295 configuration with CoH--which the older drivers did not. And this is happening even before Issue 19 officially goes live (which is supposed to enable SLI support).
I couldn't be happier with the performance. However, there is one annoying glitch which has me stumped. When I exit CoH and then try running it again (without rebooting) the login screen is sluggish and I get 15 FPS in game. If I reboot first, I don't have that problem and get a steady 60 FPS. I do not want to revert back to the 258 nVidia drivers where I get 30 FPS, so for now I am rebooting before I start CoH.
Has anyone else seen this behavior or have a guess as to what is causing it?
And BTW, the nVidia 260.99 drivers come with a new install program that lets you do a 'Clean' install--it's about time. And that is what I used to do my install from the older version of the drivers.
